Job description

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

As the Head of Marketing, you will provide creative, relational, and strategic leadership required to shape the voice and drive the growth of the Chalmers Center. Partnering closely with the Head of Creative Media, you will nurture and activate our existing network of thinkers, practitioners, churches, and partners through short-form storytelling, strategic media relationships, and a thoughtful brand experience.

Operating as a true player-coach, your immediate responsibility will be to build and lead a small, agile team that balances technical growth marketing with high-level content creation. Whether your personal expertise leans more heavily toward the analytical or the editorial, you will develop a complementary team capable of executing our broader marketing objectives.

You'll help Chalmers show up consistently in the broader conversation at the intersection of Christ's ministry and best practices in economic development. By crafting our digital and physical platforms in the world, you will create vibrant exchanges between Chalmers and community. Building on our existing network, you will use earned media, networking and excellent branding to grow a deeply engaged audience - extending our influence through trusted relationships.
Balancing creativity, strategic insight and top-notch execution, your work will result in a measurable expansion of our audience, deeper engagement across key segments, and increased participation in our training and resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the team

  • Build and lead a high-capacity marketing team aligned with Chalmers' mission and values to achieve our mix of objectives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with program, development, creative media and operations teams
  • Model a relational, humble, and service-oriented approach to leadership. A player-coach
  • Establish measurable goals, track performance, and regularly report on marketing impact and engagement
  • Establish KPIs tied to audience growth, engagement, and downstream participation in trainings
  • Partner with program teams to align marketing strategy with revenue and participation goals

Editorial & Creative Direction

  • Lead creative development and growth of the Chalmers blog
  • Create and manage a comprehensive editorial calendar aligned with strategic priorities
  • Remix our books, podcasts, and videos into shorter stories and resources
  • Alongside our Director of Communications and Sr. Director of Foundational Products, respond to current events with timely commentary, case studies and resources
  • Source and write original stories from within our community

Brand Experience

  • Ensure consistent messaging that clarifies how Chalmers is distinct in approach, theology, and practice
  • Develop a brand refresh focused on delight and clear user journeys
  • Sharpen Chalmers' voice by writing fresh coordinating copy, calls-to-action and marketing links across all existing media and channels to optimize searchability
  • Equip Chalmers' presence at conferences, events and speaking engagements with conversion-oriented collateral - clearly leading audiences to our resources and next steps

Relational Media Strategy

  • Own audience growth across segments including practitioners, church leaders, donors, and everyday Christians
  • Architect clear engagement pathways from content to community to training participation
  • Execute an earned media strategy that platforms Chalmers' people, products, and ideas before prebuilt audiences
  • Cultivate relationships with aligned press, platforms and ministry channels: pitch stories, op-eds, and media placements
  • Collaborate with our community management team to engage group chats and community engagement threads
  • Monitor and optimize web mentions on forums and digital communities
  • Steward and manage Google Ad Grants for strategic visibility

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated experience (7+ years preferred) in senior-level marketing, brand, or communications leadership, demonstrating an ability to lead, develop and inspire a high-performing team and a collaborative approach
  2. Demonstrated success driving measurable growth outcomes including audience expansion, email growth, and conversion optimization
  3. Exceptional storytelling ability with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated creativity in content creation.
  4. Proven success building brand coherence and growing engaged audiences through content-first, relational strategies
  5. Experience with earned media, PR, and press relationship development
  6. Strong digital fluency, including web strategy, SEO, CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and analytics
  7. Excellent project management skills
