Job description

Starting Salary: $74,470DESCRIPTION/JOB SUMMARY

To design new products and drive continuous improvement pertaining to electro-mechanical systems in accordance with Pride’s procedures/protocols

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

•Design and develop permanent magnet direct current (PMDC) and brushless direct current (BLDC) motors for various applications, ensuring performance, efficiency, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets are met

•Conduct in-depth analysis and simulations to optimize motor designs for specific applications

•Identify opportunities for motor performance improvements and cost reductions, and implement design or process enhancements accordingly

•Research and stay current on advancements in motor and electro-mechanical technologies

•Lead the development of prototypes and execute validation, verification, and reliability testing

•Analyze test data and implement design refinements to improve motor performance and durability

•Design and analyze complex motor systems and electro-mechanical assemblies

•Support continuous improvement of design procedures and protocols to increase engineering efficiency

•Develop, release, and revise mechanical drawings and 3D models

•Ensure designs comply with safety requirements, quality systems, and Superior Product at Reduced Cost (SPARC) initiatives

•Assist with component inspection and testing activities as required

•Manage project timelines and work within established budgets

•Serve as a technical project lead with external design partners and suppliers

•Work collaboratively with cross-functional Pride teams to exceed internal and external expectations

•Ensure all safety and security rules are strictly observed and any accidents, incidents or injuries are promptly reported to management

•Complete the annual CTPAT Security Training

•Focus on continuous improvement, and consistently demonstrate good business judgment

•Work effectively with all Pride departments to exceed internal and external expectations

•Pride retains the discretion to modify duties and/or assign other duties as necessary

REQUIRED SKILLS

•Must be a team player, friendly, professional, detail-oriented, and honest

Must have the ability to:

•Multi-task, problem-solve, and prioritize in a fast-paced working environment

•Use electrical tools (i.e. multi-meter, oscilloscope, soldering iron, and crimp tools), hand tools, and standard power tools

•Diagnose faults in brushed and brushless DC motors

•Prepare and build prototypes

•Prepare and present summary reports

•Lift/push/pull up to 40 lbs.

•Travel internationally at least twice a year for up to 2 weeks at a time

Must have:

•Relentless drive to achieve advancement and continuous improvement

•Strong knowledge of motor systems, including brushed and brushless DC motors, their components, and their electrical characteristics

•Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including circuit analysis, power electronics, and control systems

•Strong understanding of how to break down a complex motor system into its constituent parts and represent them in a structured architecture diagram

•Strong working knowledge of 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo

•Intermediate understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD OR certificate of completion in a GD&T Training Course

•Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

•Excellent web navigation skills

•Strong verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED SKILLS

•Basic working knowledge of American National Standards Institute – Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (ANSI-RESNA) standards preferred

•Basic working knowledge of UL 60601-1 Medical Electrical Equipment standard preferred

•Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot control issues and optimize motor performance preferred

•Strong working knowledge of CAN communication protocol preferred

•Intermediate working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation preferred

•Intermediate working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems preferred

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

•At least 3 years of engineering experience in an environment supporting motor design or motor drive design, motor manufacturing, industrial controls, and technical processes

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

•At least 5 years of brushed and brushless motor design experience preferred

•At least 1 year of related experience with Assistive Technology preferred

•Current or previous successful employment experience with Pride Mobility Products

REQUIRED EDUCATION

•Bachelor’s degree in an electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, control systems engineering, instrumentation engineering, applied physics, or a related field

PREFERRED EDUCATION

•Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or Professional Engineer (PE) in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering preferred
