Job Description
The Web Developer is responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the college, Walker Center, and MerleFest websites and web-based applications. This position supports the college's mission by ensuring that digital content is accurate, accessible, visually consistent, secure, and user-friendly for students, employees, and the community.
The Web Developer collaborates with departments across the college to design and implement web solutions that support instructional programs, student services, marketing, and institutional operations while ensuring compliance with accessibility standards, branding guidelines, and best practices in web development.
This is a 12-month position within the Information Technology Division, reporting to the Vice President of Information Technology and Operations/CIO.

Essential Duties Summary
Duties and responsibilities:1. Manage WordPress, including:
* Installing and configuring
* Optimizing for performance
* Theming
* Installing, configuring, and coding plugins
* Creating custom post types
* Creating custom layouts via theme files
* Organizing content media storage
* Managing AI integrations
2. Responsible for documenting all data feeds, licenses, codes, passwords, and essential information for the operation of any college website and app.
3. Create responsive CSS to provide an optimal viewing experience, easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling, across a wide range of devices.
4. Design, develop, test, and deploy system data integrations to automate manual/repetitive processes.
5. Guide training and help develop sessions for updating website components and serve as the Chair of the Web Committee.
6. Track/monitor emerging internet technologies for website design, development, and deployment and incorporate these technologies as appropriate, such as responsive design, Social Media integrations, and emergency communications.
7. Employ testing to ensure the web services meet the needs of the target audience.
8. Collaborate with the Marketing Director on strategies and content for web marketing of WCC, its programs, events, and festivals.
9. Coordinate with the Network and Security Administrator for the support and maintenance of websites for security compliance.
10. Guide the work on websites to stay within ADA guidelines.
11. Provide support for the Customer Relationship Management Tool (CRM), including but not limited to AI optimization, website integrations, and landing pages.
12. Monitor help desk requests to determine and resolve problems reported from users, along with documenting and closing support request tickets.
13. Maintain accurate and organized records to comply with audits and the Vice President of Information Technology's needs.
14. Serve as an ambassador for Information Technology to all divisions of the college.
15. Deliver positive high-quality internal and external customer service.
16. Deliver positive high-quality internal and external team interactions.
17. Maintain adequate communications with the Vice President of Information Technology and Operations/CIO and informs of any problems or issues relating to assigned duties.
18. Attend technology training and conferences as necessary to remain current and as determined by the Vice President of Information Technology and Operations/CIO.
19. Other related duties as required by the college administration.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree with experience in web design.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.
  • The ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in an information technology field
  • Preferred experience with WordPress, PHP, MySQL, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Preferred experience with Google Analytics.

Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment with extensive use of computers and other technology equipment. The position requires prolonged use of a computer workstation and frequent interaction with faculty, staff, students, service providers, and external vendors. Duties involve managing multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
The position may require occasional travel between College campuses and attendance at meetings, training sessions, conferences, or college events. Periodic evening or weekend work may be required to perform website maintenance, implement software updates, respond to critical system issues, or support special events with minimal disruption to college operations.
