What is a web developer startup?

A Web Developer Startup job involves designing, coding, and maintaining websites or web applications for a newly founded company. Developers in startups often work in fast-paced environments, handling both front-end and back-end development, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance. They may also collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and founders to shape the company's online presence. Unlike larger companies, startup developers often wear multiple hats and must quickly adapt to evolving priorities.

What are the typical responsibilities of a web developer in a startup environment?

Web Developers in startups typically handle end-to-end development, including designing, coding, testing, and deploying web applications or websites. You may collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and other team members, contributing ideas and adapting quickly to changing project requirements. The role often involves balancing rapid prototyping with writing stable, maintainable code, and may require learning new technologies on the fly. This dynamic environment provides opportunities to take on more responsibility, grow your skill set, and have a direct impact on the product’s success from an early stage.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the web developer startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Developer Startup, you need strong proficiency in web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and back-end frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or relevant experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, cloud platforms, and frameworks like React or Node.js, along with knowledge of version control and agile development practices, is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, effective communication, and a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset are highly valued. These skills are crucial due to the fast-paced, multifaceted nature of startup environments, where team members often wear multiple hats and drive innovation.

Our marketplace platform helps law firms and pro se parties access more efficient, transparent, and accessible legal services that are not traditionally available to everyone. Our primary services are Service of Process and E-Filing. We currently support over 3,000 law firms throughout the US and countless pro se parties.

We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where access to legal services is readily available, affordable, and efficient. Work with us if you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit to achieve the fundamental change in an outdated industry.

About the Role

Proof is a fast-growing startup at the forefront of legal technology, offering a best-in-class platform trusted by thousands of law firms across the U.S. Our platform is growing rapidly, with a 10% month-over-month growth, and we are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our talented engineering team as we scale and expand.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with our team to design, develop, and maintain both frontend and backend components of the Proof platform, ensuring a seamless and responsive user experience
  • Backend development using Go (Golang), creating and optimizing APIs, database usage, and core backend infrastructure.
  • Implement modern, user-friendly interfaces using React and TypeScript, ensuring the platform meets high standards of performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and security risks across the entire stack.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, and Design to deliver high-impact features and improvements within an agile development environment.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, uphold best practices, and contribute to a culture of technical excellence. Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced developers when required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the platform by identifying areas for improvement and proactively suggesting and implementing new technologies and methodologies.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of full-stack development experience, demonstrating proficiency in both frontend and backend systems and services, with a strong emphasis on building scalable and maintainable applications.
  • Proven experience with Go (Golang) or other modern programming languages (e.g., Node.js, Python, Ruby, C#) in production environments, particularly in designing and implementing robust APIs and backend systems.
  • Solid understanding of frontend development using React and TypeScript, with experience building responsive, high-performance web applications.
  • Familiarity with database management (SQL/NoSQL), and experience integrating databases with backend systems.
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful services, with exposure to GraphQL being an advantage.
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring high-quality, reliable code.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug, optimize, and refactor complex systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in remote teams and an agile environment.
  • A proactive, self-driven mindset with a desire to continuously learn and improve.
  • Familiar with agentic coding.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Full-time, salaried position
  • Salary range $155,000 - $175,000 CAD based on experience and location
  • Remote role from Canada
  • Flexible time off and holidays to support work-life balance
  • Company-provided equipment and tools
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, dental, life, and long-term disability
