What is a web developer software developer?

Web Developer Software Developers are professionals who design, build, and maintain websites and web applications. They use programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various frameworks to create user-friendly and functional online experiences. These developers may work on both the front-end (what users see) and the back-end (server-side logic and databases) of web applications. They collaborate with designers, content creators, and other developers to ensure websites are visually appealing, responsive, and perform well across different devices. Their role is essential in bringing digital ideas to life and ensuring smooth online interactions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web developer or software developer?

To excel as a Web Developer or Software Developer, you typically need proficiency in programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), a solid understanding of software development principles, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with development tools, version control systems like Git, and frameworks such as React, Angular, or Django is highly valuable, and certifications like AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are key soft skills that set top performers apart. These technical and interpersonal skills are essential for building reliable, scalable applications and collaborating successfully in dynamic development teams.

How do web developers and software developers typically collaborate on large-scale projects?

Web Developers and Software Developers often work closely together on large-scale projects to ensure seamless integration between front-end interfaces and back-end systems. Web Developers focus on creating user-facing elements, while Software Developers handle the logic, data processing, and server-side functionality. Effective collaboration involves regular meetings, shared documentation, and version control practices to align on project requirements and resolve integration issues. This teamwork not only streamlines development but also enhances the final product's usability and performance.

Job description

THE ROLE

We are looking for a player coach. Someone whose first instinct, when a teammate is stuck, is to pull up a chair.

Advantage builds the platforms that welcome new students and employees at more than four hundred colleges, universities, and organizations, including Harvard, UCLA, and Florida State.

You come in as a Team Lead, not a senior developer who might grow into one. Our development team is growing this year, so this is a real leadership role from week one.

Roughly seventy percent hands on engineering in C# and .NET, thirty percent leading. A team this size does not need a full-time manager. That balance shifts toward leadership as we grow.

WHAT YOU WOULD OWN

Real accountability, from your first week

    • The engineers on your team. Feedback, development plans, and calibration against our career framework. Their growth is what you are measured on.
    • Code review as coaching. The standards the team writes against, and reviews that teach rather than gate.
    • How work gets sized. Estimation and capacity modeling that turns a schedule into a forecast. Squarely yours to improve.
    • Modern content platform work. Umbraco major version upgrades and backoffice extension on Lit and Web Components, a shift from the older AngularJS backoffice.
    • Front end and integration craft. TypeScript, responsive work, WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility, and integration reliability.

    WHAT WE NEED

Five things, and a certificate is not one of them

      • Seven or more years in C# and .NET. This is a hard requirement, not a preference. You review this team's code from week one, and credibility on the stack is how that works.
      • You have led engineers, formally or informally, and can name someone who got better because of you.
      • You still write and ship production code, and you want to keep doing it.
      • You have owned a delivery commitment to a date and been in the room when it slipped.
      • Strong SQL Server, front end, and integration experience, and comfort in a client conversation.

Helpful, not required: management training, which we will fund. Also Umbraco or a comparable .NET CMS, design system work, Azure and CI/CD.

The leads who do best here came from mid-market product companies, software vendors, and agencies that grew into products.

      IS THIS THE RIGHT FIT?

Clear now beats clear three interviews from now

You will probably love this role if

        • Mentoring is the part of your week you look forward to, not the part you fit in around real work.
        • You want the title and the accountability now rather than eventually.
        • You have opinions about how a team estimates, reviews, and defines done.
        • You want to define how a team works rather than inherit it. Our standards, our review practice, and how we estimate are yours to shape. At a company this size you set the team's direction instead of inheriting it.

It may not be the right fit if

          • You are looking to move fully off the tools. Most of this role is still engineering.
          • You want leadership as a title rather than as work. The people part here carries real consequences.
          • You are looking for deep specialization inside a large engineering organization. Here, your team owns problems end to end and knows the clients by name.

          WHERE THIS ROLE GOES

A written framework, and a fork you choose rather than fall into

Our career framework runs two tracks and the management fork is explicit and opt in. Engineers who move into management and later want to return to the individual contributor track can do so without loss of standing. As the team grows, this role is the path into a dedicated management position.

You will be coached by two directors with more than forty-five years of combined consulting and Fortune 500 experience.

          PAY AND LOGISTICS

          Base salary: $120,000 to $150,000

Jacksonville, Florida. Hybrid after onboarding. Full time, direct hire. You must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

401(k) with match, profit sharing, health, dental and vision, paid vacation, flex time, gym membership, and funded training.
