Web Developer JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this classification is to perform technical work designing, coding, and modifying websites and web applications.

This role will work closely with the communications and creative services team, development team, GIS, and various city departments to develop and maintain scalable front-end systems, system integrations, information dashboards, and support website migration and consolidation efforts. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Develop and maintain web interfaces using HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Vue. Help with large-scale departmental website migrations, consolidations, and front-end modernization initiatives

Build and maintain modular component libraries and scalable front-end systems to ensure consistency across platforms. Implement responsive designs, accessibility standards, technical SEO, and web performance optimization strategies. Work with APIs, system integrations, and data visualization tools.

Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to communicate project requirements and progress. Work in partnership with the communications and creative services team to keep website video and photography up to date, continually monitoring website text, offerings, and departmental pages to make improvements and ensure accuracy. Improve systems and platforms through automation and intelligent engagement capabilities.

Provide technical support for mission-critical production applications and participate in on-call rotations. Perform thorough testing and troubleshooting to ensure application performance, security, reliability, and compliance. Ensure system enhancements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensure the latest ADA/WCAG compliance. Utilize graphic design capabilities to create and maintain visual assets for web interfaces and marketing materials. Maintain documentation related to websites, applications, and development processes as required.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as required, requested, and assigned. Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer technology web development, graphic design, or a related field; or Vocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in computer technology, graphic design, web development, or a related field with two (2) years of work experience in a related field; or A combination of high school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in computer technology, graphic design, web development, or a related field. Technical skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, Drupal, SharePoint, graphic design, SEO optimization, ADA/WCAG compliance, etc., are preferred

Licenses or Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Special Requirements: None. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of computer science or computer programming.

Knowledge of database design and management. Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices. Knowledge of web security principles.

Knowledge of customer service principles. Knowledge of electronics. Skill in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining websites and web applications.

Skill in troubleshooting and resolving website functionality issues. Skill in writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code. Skill in using web development tools.

Skill in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility. Skill in persuading. Skill in performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculating decimals, percentages, and fractions; computing discounts, interest, and ratios; and calculating surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships. Ability to build rapport. Ability to listen.

Ability to see hidden problems and look beyond the obvious before stopping at the first of answers. Ability to identify and resolve technical issues. Ability to overhaul, restore, renovate, construct, and/or rebuild equipment, machinery, or objects, requiring adherence to prescribed standards and specifications.

Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is light work. The employee is frequently required to apply 10 pounds of force to move objects. The employee is occasionally required to exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.

Additionally requires: climbing, hearing voices, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, expressing ideas by the spoken word, visual acuity in data/color/inspect defects or measurements, and walking. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed both indoors and in the field with some exposure to adverse conditions such as machinery or electric currents. Work is performed part of the time working in an environment where errors on this job can lead to significant physical or mental consequences for self or others.
