As a Senior Engineer within Digital Enablement, you specialize in building and supporting the platforms and tools that enable teams to deliver reliable, scalable digital experiences. You translate architectural concepts into practical, resilient solutions and apply strong engineering patterns to improve system reliability and operational efficiency. Use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain. Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies. Manage total product, financials, and forecasting. Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services. Lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level. Lead functional design and architecture discussions with understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions. Participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements and best practices met. Provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex and severe technical issues. Lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning. Embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use.

About you:
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on building and maintaining production-grade APIs and developer tooling
  • 2+ years of experience designing and building RESTful or gRPC APIs, preferably in Go and/or TypeScript
  • 2+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices, including authoring GitHub Actions workflows
  • Hands-on experience building backend services, CLIs, or platform tooling that improve developer productivity or support large-scale web deployments
  • Experience working with major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Experience containerizing applications and deploying them on orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker
  • Basic understanding of CDN concepts including caching, traffic routing, and edge configuration (e.g., Fastly, Cloudflare, or similar)
  • Familiarity with observability practices including log aggregation, metrics, and distributed tracing
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows (branching strategies, code review, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to drive technical decisions and mentor peers
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep experience writing production services or tooling in Go and TypeScript/Node.js
  • Experience building or maintaining GitHub Actions - custom actions, reusable workflows, or large-scale CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with CDN platforms such as Fastly, including VCL or edge logic configuration
  • Experience designing APIs or SDKs consumed by other engineering teams (internal platform/DX focus)
  • Familiarity with progressive deployment strategies such as canary, blue/green, or red/black deployments
  • Experience with secrets management, certificate lifecycle, or supply chain security practices
  • Exposure to e-commerce platform architecture or high-traffic web systems at scale
  • Interest in or experience with emerging developer experience tooling, AI-assisted development workflows, or internal platform engineering

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
