What is a web designer frontend developer?

A Web Designer Frontend Developer is a professional who creates the visual layout and interactive elements of websites using languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They are responsible for designing user interfaces that are both attractive and easy to use, ensuring that websites look good and function smoothly across different devices and browsers. While web designers focus on the aesthetics and user experience, frontend developers bring those designs to life with code and make sure the site is responsive and efficient. Often, a Web Designer Frontend Developer combines both roles, handling the creative and technical aspects of building a website.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web designer frontend developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Designer Frontend Developer, you need a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, and a portfolio showcasing your work, often backed by a degree or relevant certifications. Familiarity with frameworks such as React or Vue.js, design tools like Adobe XD or Figma, and version control systems like Git is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, strong communication, and problem-solving abilities set standout professionals apart in this role. These combined skills ensure the development of visually appealing, user-friendly, and high-performing websites that meet client and business needs.

How does a web designer frontend developer typically collaborate with backend developers and other team members during a project?

Web Designer Frontend Developers work closely with backend developers, UX/UI designers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality. They translate design mockups into responsive, interactive interfaces and communicate regularly with backend teams to connect APIs and data sources. Effective collaboration often involves participating in agile sprints, code reviews, and daily stand-up meetings to address challenges and align on project goals. This teamwork is essential for delivering cohesive, user-friendly web applications that meet both aesthetic and technical requirements.

What is the difference between Web Designer Frontend Developer vs Web Developer?

Job Description

WHAT DOES A SENIOR EXPERIENCE DESIGNER - WEB/IVA DO?

The Senior Experience Designer - Web/IVA is a seasoned, hands-on individual contributor operating at the intersection of design, technology, and brand across web and interactive visual aid (IVA) experiences. This role exists to translate creative vision into high-quality, production-ready digital experiences that balance brand expression, user experience, system integrity, and technical feasibility.

Senior Experience Designers are trusted practitioners who operate with a high degree of autonomy, applying sound judgment and deep expertise to navigate complexity, solve execution challenges, and consistently deliver work that meets both creative intent and production requirements. They contribute strategically to execution while remaining deeply engaged in the craft-leading through expertise, influencing design direction, and ensuring quality from concept through implementation.

Success in this role requires strong proficiency in Figma, including a working understanding of variables and design tokens, as well as demonstrated experience designing within code-aligned design systems. Senior Experience Designers collaborate closely with Art, Copy, Experience Architecture (UX), Development, and fellow Experience Designers to create scalable, brand-aware solutions that are creatively compelling, system-aligned, and technically sound.

Our employees deliver exceptional business results through the strength of their expertise, execution, and cross-functional partnerships. For Senior Experience Designers, these results are achieved by:

  • Executing Work Independently: Owning projects from concept through delivery as a trusted individual contributor-working independently or alongside other practitioners based on project scope and complexity.

  • Operating with Minimal Oversight: Exercising sound judgment, maintaining momentum, and ensuring alignment to creative, technical, and production standards with minimal direction.

  • Designing Within Systems: Applying established design systems, components, patterns, tokens, variables, and responsive behaviors to create cohesive, scalable, production-ready Web and IVA experiences.

  • Bridging Craft and Production: Translating creative intent into solutions that respect both the integrity of the brand experience and the realities of development-advocating for strong design while working responsibly within technical, accessibility, regulatory, system, and business requirements.

  • Collaborating Cross-Functionally: Partnering with Art, Copy, Development, and fellow Experience Designers to ensure solutions are creatively aligned, technically feasible, and ready for implementation.

  • Applying Design Judgment: Evaluating tradeoffs, resolving design challenges, incorporating feedback, and making informed execution decisions that balance creative intent, technical feasibility, and production quality.

  • Mentoring Through Practice: Elevating fellow Experience Designers through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and leading by example.
