Learn more about Louisiana Department of HealthThe Bureau of Media and Communications (BMAC) leads internal and external communications for the Louisiana Department of Health. BMAC works closely with the executive management team, senior leadership and program offices to align policy with the goals set by the Secretary and Surgeon General, and to support the department's Legislative and Governmental Relations team. Additionally, the BMAC team works closely with LDH offices to produce high-quality communications assets that convey public health and department messaging and guidance. All BMAC staff are responsible for creating and enabling clear, concise communication for news media, LDH social media channels, community partners and the 8,000 state employees who implement the department's programming services each day.
This role requires exceptional writing skills, the ability to quickly understand complex topics, and the judgment to translate technical, policy, and operational information into clear, concise communications. As the primary writer for the BMAC team, this individual will develop and manage key messages, talking points, narratives, scripts, web content, and other strategic communications materials. Success in this role depends on synthesizing input from diverse subject matter experts and stakeholders, managing multiple priorities, and producing high-quality work under tight deadlines.

Minimum QualificationsSeven years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus four years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
An advanced degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or English plus three years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
Write, organize, and audit written communications (internal and external) for LDH - Develops new and creative growth strategies to be presented to executive management. Collaborate with internal and external teams concerning, public relations activities within LDH.
- Works closely with the media liaison and press secretary on high-level communications for social media posts or website, updates that address media inquiries or emergency responses for the department, Assists BMAC leadership with creating long-term content strategy across all channels (to be reviewed and approved by executive management).
- Provides guidance to the communications lead for the Office of the Surgeon General on social media content, Manages the digital media assistant who engages and responds to stakeholders and followers on social channels, Provides guidance and approval of social media public relations campaigns for programs within LDH, Conducts research to identify social media trends and insights. Optimize spending and performance based on the data collected.
Oversees website vendor relationships, ADA web accessibility compliance, and directs the planning, organization, creation and publishing of web content- Designated as the primary Web Accessibility Coordinator.
- Manages the overall compliance of the LDH website, resolves accessibility issues reported by web or mobile application users, and provides assistance to agency staff, as needed, to create and manage web content that complies with policy and procedure memoranda (PPM).
- Provides oversight of the LDH Website and reviews requested changes from program offices. Manages policies on website governance and social media responses, comments and posts.
- Work closely with internal and external teams to plan, develop, and edit content that is accessible to diverse audiences, Updates and reviews all additions and changes to the agency web page made by office webmasters, Research and recommend optimal website layouts and reviews LDH website for optimal search engine optimization (SEO) structure.
Emergency response and crisis communications- Responsible for providing additional assistance in internal and external communications, web updates, social media and other BMAC responsibilities during an emergency or crisis.
- Must be available to staff the Joint Information Center (JIC) at the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), if needed.
