At L.L.Bean, our designers create products that inspire people to get outside and enjoy the restorative power of nature. We're looking for a Temporary Assistant Designerto support our Design team in the categories of equipment, travel, and hunting/fishing. 2-4 days per week onsite at L.L.Bean's headquarters in Freeport, Maine is preferred.

In this role, you'll support designers as they partner with Merchandising, Product Development, and Technical Design to help shape the look and feel of L.L.Bean products. From color and prints to silhouettes and styling details, you'll contribute to products that reflect our brand heritage while meeting the needs of today's customer.


Responsibilities:

Strategy (Product Aesthetic, Seasonal Concept Direction)

  • Assists design team with the construction of seasonal color palettes. - Assists in building presentation and concept boards.
  • Contributes to seasonal trend direction / seasonal trend presentation and seasonal trend deck and vendor deck.


Market Research Aesthetic Inspiration and Trend

  • Conducts market research primarily via web and visiting local boutiques, mall and vintage stores.


Core Work

  • Tools and Systems Management: Lawson and BOM (Bill of Materials) responsibilities with focus on design deadlines relating to seasonal M2M (Mind to Market) calendar.
  • Creates and updates visual line plan.
  • Maintains trim and fabric libraries; Pantone books; ordering swatches.
  • Assists designers in selecting surface pattern.
  • Sends prints and selected surface pattern to mills to develop.
  • Sends out color cards and approve lab dips, strike offs, etc. - Develops print/pattern/graphics packages for product and hangtags/packaging.
  • May attend fit sessions for training purposes.
  • Works with Creative Copy on color naming process.


General Meetings/M2M Meetings Responsibility

  • Builds fabric and color boards; constructs and updates color palette boards.
  • Assists in the rigging and preparation of rooms for Seasonal Trend, Concept, Adopt and Line Review Meetings.
  • May attend M2M meetings as a learner.

L.L.Bean uses a market-based compensation approach. The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $26.03-$31.24. Individual compensation may vary based on factors such as a candidate's experience, qualifications, education, geographic location, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
