The copywriter supports federal transportation communications and marketing work by developing clear, persuasive, and engaging content for external audiences. This role focuses on materials such as newsletters, fact sheets, websites, email campaigns, social media, and other communications products, often in collaboration with graphic designers and other project team members. The copywriter helps shape voice and tone, build awareness, and inspire action.

Remote within the United States. Candidates must be available to work hours aligned with the team on the East Coast.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Content Development & Copywriting: Create persuasive and engaging copy for newsletters, fact sheets, websites, email campaigns, social media, marketing materials, and other communications products.
  • Voice & Messaging: Develop and maintain a consistent voice and tone that supports client goals, agency programs, and brand standards. Write clear calls to action and audience-focused messaging designed to build awareness, encourage engagement, or drive specific actions.
  • Audience & Channel Adaptation: Adapt content for different audiences, channels, and formats while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and readability.
  • Creative Collaboration: Collaborate with graphic designers, editors, strategists, and project teams to ensure copy and visuals work together as a cohesive message.
  • Revision & Workflow Management: Participate in creative reviews and revise copy in response to feedback from internal teams and clients. Manage multiple assignments and deadlines and contribute to project workflows, content calendars, deliverable tracking, and related communications planning activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, advertising, communications, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in creative writing, copywriting, marketing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills or a related communications role. Strong candidates earlier in their careers with relevant internship, freelance, or editorial experience may also be considered.
  • ability to provide a writing portfolio or sample.
  • Willingness to travel moderately as needed.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing content for public-sector, transportation, or mission-driven programs is a plus.
  • Writing & Storytelling: Strong command of clear, concise, audience-focused writing and storytelling.
  • Audience Focus: Ability to translate complex information into accessible, engaging copy for different audiences.
  • Communications Channels: Knowledge of traditional and digital communications channels, including print, web, email, social media, events, outreach, and direct response.
  • Content Strategy: Understanding of content strategy, brand voice, campaign messaging, and audience engagement principles.
  • Collaboration: Strong team orientation and ability to work effectively with designers, editors, strategists, clients, and other project team members.
  • Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, and familiarity with collaborative work platforms and content review workflows.
