Job Title: Sr. AEM Engineer
Location: Boston, MA - 3 days a week onsite
Length: 6 months 
 
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Developer
We are seeking an experienced Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Developer with 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-scale digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AEM Sites, component development, content management solutions, and Java-based backend development. This role requires close collaboration with architects, business stakeholders, UX teams, and content authors to deliver scalable, high-performing digital experiences.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) applications and websites.
• Build reusable AEM components, templates, dialogs, workflows, and content models.
• Develop and customize AEM Core Components using HTL (Sightly), Sling Models, and OSGi services.
• Create and maintain Content Fragments and Experience Fragments to support omnichannel content delivery.
• Develop custom Sling Servlets, Workflow Processes, Event Handlers, and Scheduler Jobs.
• Configure and manage AEM Author, Publish, Dispatcher, and CDN environments.
• Implement integrations with third-party systems, REST APIs, DAM platforms, analytics tools, and Adobe Experience Cloud products.
• Support content migration, Multi-Site Manager (MSM), localization, and translation workflows.
• Optimize AEM applications for performance, scalability, accessibility, and SEO.
• Collaborate with content authors and business stakeholders to build intuitive content authoring experiences.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and CI/CD deployment processes.
• Maintain technical documentation, coding standards, and development best practices.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of architecting and implementing Adobe solutions
• Deep understanding of Java, Java EE, Servlets, HTL/Sightly skills, combined with a strong understanding of enterprise Java frameworks such as Spring
• Deep understanding of and hands-on development experience with relevant 'Java CMS' frameworks including Apache Sling for content-centric application development, JCR and JSR-170 / JSR-283 for Content Management, JSR-168 and JSR-286 for Portal development, and Apache Felix for OSGi bundle development
• Proficient in Adobe AEM foundational concepts, including the use of core frameworks such as Apache Sling and Apache Felix, a solid understanding of all of the related building blocks including templates, components, dialogs, widgets, etc., and the Adobe AEM development and deployment process
• Good understanding of Adobe AEM WCM capabilities including multi-site manager and Blueprinting, and the use of online marketing components such as advanced targeting / personalization, and multi-variate testing, is preferred
• Proficient knowledge of the end-to-end content lifecycle, web content management, content publishing / deployment, and delivery processes
• Good understanding of integration patterns and content-centric application development patterns using Day CQ / Adobe AEM with or without a Portal, Search, Commerce package or other platforms, is preferred
• Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies (Agile, SCRUM)
• Experience in Adobe Campaign, Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target and Adobe migration project
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
 
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO), or Adobe Analytics.
• Experience with migration of AEM On-Prem to AEMaaCS.
• Knowledge of Dispatcher configuration, caching strategies, and CDN integration.
• Experience with headless CMS implementations.
• Exposure to React, Angular, or modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Adobe Cloud.
• Adobe Certified Professional or Adobe Certified Expert certifications.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, AWS CodeWhisperer, or similar) for AEM component and Sling Model development
• Ability to validate AI-generated Java and HTL code through unit testing, SonarQube review, and AEM anti-pattern detection
• Experience prompting AI tools to scaffold AEMcomponents and Content Fragment Models, and iterating on generated outputs
• Awareness of IP and security considerations when sharing proprietary or client code with external AI tools
