Job description

Job Description & Skills: Front-End Developer
The User Experience team at Sears Holdings is looking for a front-end developer with at least three years of experience (and a great sense of humor) to join our close-knit group of Web professionals. The ideal candidate should be able to quickly hand-code clean HTML and CSS from Photoshop comps and wireframes and have a basic understanding of interaction design and user-centered design methods and practices.
Our team is made up of a motivated group of developers, information architects, Web designers and other creative types who work hard every day to improve the user experience at Sears.com, Kmart.com and other Sears Holdings sites. If you’re a front-end developer with professional experience collaborating with design and development teams on large-scale projects and you like to laugh — or at least enjoy being around others who like to laugh — then we’d like to talk to you right away. Okay, there are a few other requirements we’re asking for — so take a look at the list below. If you have all, or most, of these qualifications, we’d like to hear from you right away!
We’re looking for someone who has:
3+ years experience coding to W3C standards with HTML, XHTML, DHTML, CSS, XML, RSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Flash and other related interactive technologies.
1+ years experience in e-commerce, retail merchandising/marketing, advertising, product development, e-commerce or related fields.
Experience as a consultant.
Strong HTML, XHTML, DHTML, CSS and XML programming skills, including “table-less” coding practices.
Proficiency in JavaScript, Flash, Adobe Photoshop/Image Ready, Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia.
The ability to create clean, precise browser-compatible code and reusable code libraries.
Knowledge to turn business and user requirements into elegant user interfaces and compelling interactive experiences.
A comprehensive portfolio.
Excellent communication skills and a respect for other perspectives.
Expert conflict resolution skills, with the ability to negotiate with stakeholders.
Organized, self-directed, efficient and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks across multiple projects, under tight deadlines.
And it’s a big plus if you have the following:
Experience with Web site localization issues and Web accessibility standards.
Experience with IBM Web Sphere, JSP, Swing and Struts (a definite asset, but not required).
Degree in marketing, visual communication, graphic arts, computer science or related area.
Agency/design firm experience.
The front-end developer will work with a team of three to five front-end developers to take on new development initiatives and platform enhancements across Sears.com, Kmart.com and the associated portfolio of brand properties. The person chosen for this position will research and recommend appropriate interactive technologies and conduct code walkthroughs and quality assurance with development teams. This position will report to the manager of front-end development in User Experience. We’re looking for someone who has:
