Field Inspector, Mass Save
Field based position, visiting 4 or more homes a day
Ideally located between Metrowest and Worcester

Summary/Objective
Abode oversees Trade Allies (including Home Performance Contractors-HPC's) providing residential energy assessment, weatherization services, and heat pumps for the Mass Save program. This position helps ensure quality delivery of these services by conducting in-depth inspections of projects undertaken for this program through a blend of field visits (both in-process and post-completion) and reviews of photo-documentation of installations for Home Energy Assessments, Weatherization work, and Heat Pump installations. This is a terrific opportunity for someone with previous hands-on experience in residential energy efficiency contracting to work largely independently in the field to ensure impactful delivery of these services.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Field Inspection Manager, Field Inspectors partner with HPC's, residential customers, and Abode office staff to ensure that work completed under the Mass Save program meets program standards, is high quality, and delivers a great customer experience. To accomplish this, responsibilities include:
  • Staying current with Mass Save program rules and best practices. Communicating regularly with Abode field and office staff as needed to do so, including regularly scheduled virtual meetings as well as periodic meetings at Abode headquarters.
  • Traveling (using personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement) to multiple homes (typically 4 or more) each weekday throughout the state (typically concentrated in a geographic region) for inspections.
  • Providing real-time feedback and guidance to HPC field crews regarding project scope or implementation to ensure they are in compliance with program and best practice guidelines (including safety).
  • Responding to and helping to address customer concerns about projects.
  • Conducting diagnostic testing (e.g. combustion safety, blower door, and infrared scans) to assess the potential health risks and efficacy of work scoped or completed by HPC's.
  • Collecting and entering data into the company's electronic forms for project tracking.
  • Analyzing recommended and installed measures for program eligibility, sound building science, and suitable installation techniques.
  • Creating comprehensive reports shared with HPC's and Program Administrators that grade completed work, and when necessary, require call-back's.
  • Other duties that may be assigned to you as Abode continues to evolve.

Qualifications
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of residential building science and of Mass Save or similar programs is required:
    • BPI Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) required (certification can be obtained through Abode).
    • HERS certification preferred.
    • Previous experience servicing as a Crew Lead, Energy Specialist, or Inspector in the Mass Save program is ideal.
    • Previous Heat Pump experience is also a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate on-job concerns with crews and homeowners, as well as to communicate post-job concerns in a professional manner with Abode staff and participating contractors to address and improve work quality.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Apps, phone, and tablet-based data collection required.
  • Collaborative team player, brings a positive can-do attitude. Calm, even temperament suited to dealing with customer service issues.
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.
  • Must have valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and suitable auto insurance.
  • Associate's degree or higher and/or comparable knowledge gained through relevant experience.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese to support customers or partners whose native language is not English would be a big plus.

Physical Demands
  • Will have duties both inside and outside the customer's home.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
  • Requires standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, bending, and crawling.
  • Requires lifting, transporting and carrying objects weighing up to 40 pounds multiple times per day.
  • Comfortable with heights and ladders plus the ability to crawl and inspect confined spaces.
  • Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, insulation, and other related hazards.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position withan initial base salary of $72K plus the opportunity to earn an additional $30K+ per year depending on the quality and volume of work performed. The Field Inspector will receive an additional mileage reimbursement for use of their personal vehicle on company business.
