Employer & Industry UsageDevelops algorithms, models, and wearable tech innovationsAnalyzes wearable data to inform decisions, improve products, and report findings

Wearable Data Science focuses on developing algorithms and models to interpret wearable device data, often involving machine learning. Wearable Data Analysts interpret and visualize this data to support business or healthcare decisions. Both roles require strong analytical skills but differ in technical depth and responsibilities.

What is wearable data science?

Wearable data science is a field focused on analyzing and interpreting data collected from wearable devices such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, and health monitors. Professionals in this area develop methods to process large volumes of sensor data to gain insights into health, activity, and behavior patterns. The insights can be used to improve health outcomes, enhance user experiences, and support research in various domains including healthcare, sports, and consumer technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Wearable Data Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wearable Data Scientist, you need a solid background in data analysis, statistics, machine learning, and a relevant degree in fields like computer science, engineering, or data science. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R, experience with data visualization tools, and knowledge of wearable sensor platforms are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you translate complex data into actionable insights. These skills are vital for developing accurate models and delivering meaningful results that drive innovation in wearable technology.

How do wearable data scientists typically collaborate with hardware engineers and software developers during product development?

Wearable data scientists work closely with hardware engineers to understand sensor specifications and data collection constraints, ensuring that the data is accurate and usable for analysis. They also collaborate with software developers to integrate data processing algorithms into wearable devices or companion apps, often providing feedback on data flow, storage, and real-time analytics. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for developing robust products that deliver actionable insights to users and meet technical requirements.

Acting as the bridge between Operations, Engineering, Planning, and Digital teams, this role translates execution requirements into scalable data standards, drives site adoption projects through training and enrichment activities, and ensures master data remains aligned with realworld processes as factories evolve. Ownership of ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and fitnessforpurpose will deliver improvements in cycle time reduction, ontime shipment, WIP control, and capacity utilization.

Location: This position may be based in either Billerica, Massachusetts or Chaska, Minnesota. Candidates located near or willing to work from either site are encouraged to apply.

  • Develop working knowledge of manufacturing processes and operations across multiple sites and business units to contextualize ERP master data.
  • Understand Entegris deployment and specific configurations of SAP, especially for Work Centers, Routings, Labor Pools, and BOMs.
  • Gain knowledge of short- and long-term planning process steps, planned orders are converted to production orders and then managed through the production process.
  • Lead master data enrichment and sustainment projects focused on enabling short- and long-range capacity planning, accurate standard costing, and predictable scheduling at global manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop business specific master data standards, configuration, and maintenance practices that are consistent with corporate policies.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Planning, and Digital teams to translate operational requirements into actionable master data configurations that enable efficient operation.
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Performance Analytics lead to ensure master data configurations support actionable insights on key manufacturing metrics such as WIP, on time job completion, capacity loading, etc.
  • Build and maintain relationships across the global organization to enable effective leadership and collaboration, especially networking with other members of the global ops organization working on master data projects.
  • Support enhancements or changes to data configuration as operational processes change to maintain accurate production signals to operations.
  • Drive projects to support standardized master data approach to cost structure.
  • Communicate effectively across the organization (BU, Operations, NPI, NPD, R&D, etc.) to drive results. Contribute to the direction of the department in partnership with other members of the team and leadership.

What We Seek

  • Deliver defined scope on the committed timeline, with clear milestone tracking (baseline plan, critical path, and weekly status), and timely escalation of risks/issues.
  • Train site personnel on their roles and responsibilities to the point of self-sufficiency by job function, effectively eliminating reliance on maintaining data as another set of tribal knowledge.

Optimized master data configuration impact

  • Drive measurable shop-floor execution improvements enabled by SCCP (e.g., schedule adherence, on-time job completion, WIP visibility/control, capacity loading accuracy, and reduced manual workarounds), with baseline and postimplementation performance review.

Sustainment

  • Establish and sustain master data standards and governance (routings, work centers, labor pools, BOM-related execution data), including documented ownership, change control, and audit/quality checks.
  • Success looks like stable plants with Engineering and Production owners for critical data fields operating on their own to continue to get the operational benefits with occasional support for enhancements or issues.
