What is a wealth manager?

A wealth manager is a financial professional who provides comprehensive financial services to individuals, families, or businesses with significant assets. They help clients manage, grow, and protect their wealth through investment advice, financial planning, tax strategies, estate planning, and retirement planning. Wealth managers often develop personalized strategies to meet each client's unique goals and needs, coordinating with other professionals such as accountants and attorneys as necessary. Their services are typically tailored for high-net-worth individuals seeking holistic financial guidance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wealth manager?

To thrive as a Wealth Manager, you need expertise in financial planning, investment strategies, and a strong understanding of economic markets, often backed by degrees in finance or economics and relevant certifications like CFP or CFA. Proficiency with portfolio management software, financial modeling tools, and CRM systems is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, trustworthiness, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly help build strong client relationships. These skills are crucial for developing tailored financial strategies that protect and grow clients' wealth while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.

Job description

CLA is a top 10 national professional services firm where our purpose is to create opportunities every day, for our clients, our people, and our communities through industry-focused wealth advisory, digital, audit, tax, consulting, and outsourcing services. Even with more than 8,500 people, 130 U.S. locations, and a global reach, we promise to know you and help you.

A platform built for durable, organic growth.

Our advisors average $250M in AUM across ~120 households and continue to grow ~10% net new AUM annually-without Schwab or Fidelity referral programs. That growth is fueled by access to 100,000+ individual tax clients and 75,000 privately held businesses, creating one of the deepest organic prospect pipelines in the industry.

Why this role matters now:

The wealth landscape is changing in a meaningful way: women are increasingly the primary decisionmakers for household wealth, and pivotal life transitions often create moments where the right advisor relationship matters most. In our Women & Wealth vision, CLA is focused on becoming the trusted advisor of choice for highnetworth women and womenled businesses, delivering personalized tax and wealth strategies that protect legacy and align financial decisions with life goals.

We're selectively adding senior wealth advisors in key markets and offer a highly competitive compensation structure designed for experienced professionals.

About the role:

CLA is looking to hire a Senior Wealth Advisor to work in our Minneapolis, MN office.

The SWA serves as a relationship manager providing Total Wealth Advisory-a comprehensive, planningled experience anchored in a personal financial plan and spanning a client's financial and tax needs.

Senior Wealth Advisors bring advanced knowledge across tax, investments, financial planning, insurance, and estate and retirement planning. You'll manage a book of client relationships, lead client strategy, and delegate work appropriately to deliver a hightouch experience with strong followthrough.

This role is ideal for an advisor who thrives in an environment where:

  • Planning and tax integration elevate the advice (and client stickiness)
  • Growth is powered by real, organic access-not paid lead programs
  • Client relationships include complexity, transitions, and multigenerational needs (including women navigating moments like business liquidity, divorce, widowhood, caregiving, and career shifts)

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum of EIGHT (8) years of progressively responsible financial services experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • FINRA Series 65 or 66 Required.
  • Existing Transferrable Book of Business Preferred.

Our approach to compensation emphasizes collaboration and career growth. We pay competitive wages and view compensation as an investment in our people. Factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge may impact position of pay within the range.

The compensation range for this position in Minnesota is: $113,000 - $225,000.

This role is eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance and other factors.
