What is a wealth manager?

A wealth manager is a financial professional who provides comprehensive financial planning and investment management services to individuals, families, or businesses. They help clients grow, protect, and transfer their wealth by offering tailored advice on investments, retirement planning, tax strategies, estate planning, and more. Wealth managers often coordinate with other professionals, such as accountants and attorneys, to deliver holistic financial solutions. Their goal is to help clients achieve long-term financial goals and maintain financial security.

What does a wealth manager do?

The job duties of a wealth manager include working to advise clients about investment opportunities and strategies. In this career, your responsibilities may involve providing retirement advice for a client, explaining and helping facilitate investments in a variety of different investment products, and providing information about issues related to taxes and estate planning. A wealth management consultant may work independently or as a member of a financial services company or bank. Some wealth managers help clients plan investments and gain access to complicated or exclusive investment vehicles that are not available to retail investors.

How do wealth managers typically collaborate with other financial professionals to serve their clients?

Wealth Managers often work closely with a team of financial professionals, including tax advisors, estate planners, and investment analysts, to provide comprehensive financial solutions for their clients. Collaboration is key, as clients’ needs are multifaceted and may require coordinated expertise in areas like tax optimization, retirement planning, or risk management. Regular meetings and open communication channels ensure that all professionals are aligned on the client’s goals and strategies. This team-based approach not only enhances the quality of service but also allows Wealth Managers to offer more tailored and effective advice.

About the Firm

Our client is a nationally recognized, fee‑only Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) with more than four decades of experience serving individuals, families, business owners, and institutional clients. Senior Wealth Managers are long‑term strategic hires with a clear path to ownership.

This role is ideal for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who excels at explaining complex financial concepts in a clear, relatable way. You will lead client relationships, oversee advanced planning engagements, and contribute meaningfully to both business development and client service.

  • Proven experience as the primary relationship owner for complex client households

Lead Advisor Capabilities

  • Serve as the primary advisor and decision‑maker for high‑net‑worth clients
  • Lead client review and discovery meetings, including advanced planning scenarios
  • Deliver strategies across tax, estate, investments, retirement, and risk management
  • Coordinate tax strategy with external CPAs
  • Experience with equity compensation planning, business owners, or other specializations is a plus
  • Guide clients through retirement income and distribution planning
  • Partner with estate attorneys on legacy planning

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Strong understanding of investment fundamentals, securities, account types, and transaction mechanics
  • Ability to synthesize competing priorities (tax, investment, estate, behavioral) into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Commitment to a fee‑only, client‑first planning environment
  • Belief in academically grounded investment philosophy
  • Respect for confidentiality and fiduciary responsibility

Leadership & Growth Mindset

  • Invest in the development of Planners and Wealth Managers
  • Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Positive, client‑focused attitude
  • Self‑motivated and able to operate independently

Business Development Experience

  • Lead the full discovery and onboarding process for new clients
  • Generate new business through referrals, firm‑generated leads, and personal networks
  • Consistently contribute to revenue growth and new client acquisition
  • Act as an ambassador for the firm by clearly articulating its value proposition

Why Work With Our Client

You’ll have the opportunity to learn from a team of experts, make a meaningful impact on clients’ lives, and contribute to a collaborative, values‑driven culture. The firm invests deeply in the people who take care of clients.
