Job description

Position Summary...What you'll do...About the Team The Accelerated Pickup & Delivery (APD) program is Walmart’s in-store fulfillment automation initiative, deploying automated systems across stores with a vision to scale to 400+ sites, unlocking a $20B+ P&L impact. The APD Automation Engineering & Strategy team sits at the intersection of fulfillment strategy, Technology, and Operations — owning the performance narrative for one of Walmart’s most ambitious automation investments. This team drives cross-site performance benchmarking, long-range investment analysis, developing automated fulfillment strategy and — critically — the AI-powered storytelling and visualization capabilities that translate complex automation data into executive-ready insights/decisions. About the Role As Senior Manager, Automation Engineering, you will own the end-to-end development and delivery of APD’s performance reporting, strategic storytelling, and AI-powered communication capabilities. You are equal parts engineer, strategist, and storyteller. You build strategies and use visual and AI tools to turn raw automation data into compelling narratives that drive executive decisions. You will be the person who “connects the dots” — breaking down complex priorities into smart, brief, leadership-ready communications. You’ll build APDs reporting frameworks, write white papers to spell out the Automation and fulfillment strategy, design best-in-class visualizations, and leverage AI (agents, prompting, video, content generation) to accelerate the team’s communication. What You’ll Do AI-Powered Storytelling & Executive Communication
  • Build and own the APD performance narrative — translating complex automation data into executive-ready decks, white papers, and strategic briefs that land with Walmart leadership all the way up to the board of directors.
  • Serve as the APD team’s AI expert for content creation — leveraging generative AI to produce presentation decks, video summaries, written reports, and data visualizations at speed and quality.
  • Develop and maintain templatized reporting frameworks for recurring deliverables (WBR, MBR, eTSM, eMSM, QBR) that are consistent, polished, and leadership-ready.
  • Design best-in-class data visualizations that make the right insight obvious — choosing the best chart type, layout, and narrative structure for each audience.
  • Create white papers and thought-leadership content on APD automation capabilities, performance outcomes, and strategic direction.
AI Tools, Agents & Prompting
  • Be the team’s prompting and AI tooling expert — identifying, evaluating, and deploying AI tools for communication, roadmap tracking, content generation, and performance analysis.
  • Build AI agents and workflows that automate recurring reporting tasks, data pulls, and narrative generation — reducing manual effort and increasing quality.
  • Leverage AI to produce video content, animated explainers, and multimedia assets that make APD’s story compelling across all formats.
  • Stay current on enterprise AI capabilities (Element LLM Gateway, internal tools) and bring best practices to the team.
Reporting, Roadmap Tracking & End-to-End Connectivity
  • Own the end-to-end reporting pipeline — from raw data to executive presentation — ensuring nothing falls through the cracks across weekly (WBR, Memo), monthly (MBR, eMSM), and quarterly (QBR, eTSM) cadences.
  • Track and communicate the APD roadmap using AI-powered tools — making status, risks, dependencies, and milestones visible and actionable.
  • Capture what’s important — distill complex program activities into “smart briefs” that give leadership the right information at the right altitude.
  • Connect the dots across workstreams (Design, Product, Process, Automation) to surface cross-cutting insights and dependencies.
Automation Engineering & Strategy
  • Support cross-site performance benchmarking and health scoring of automation sub-systems across 19+ active APD sites.
  • Contribute to long-range automation investment modeling and capital request preparation (eTSM → RLM → REC pipeline).
  • Partner with vendor teams (Knapp, Symbotic) on performance tuning, ECM updates, and QBR preparation.
  • Support UPLH modeling and continuous improvement diagnostics that drive the path to UPLH > 60.
Breaking Down Priorities & Driving the Future
  • Break down complex program priorities into clear, sequenced action plans that align with leadership expectations.
  • Be a thought leader — proactively surfacing insights, recommending direction, and shaping the APD strategy narrative before being asked.
  • Drive the future of APD reporting — continuously evolving the team’s communication approach, tooling, and cadence based on stakeholder feedback.
What You’ll Need
  • Ability to tell a story with data — you don’t just make charts, you craft narratives that move decisions.
  • Managing multiple detail-oriented deliverables across competing deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
  • Comfortable operating at multiple altitudes —deep-dive engineering analysis to a 1-slide Board-ready summary.
  • Versatile communicator — equally effective writing a white paper, building a PowerPoint deck.
  • Self-starter with strong judgment on what matters — you capture the signal, not the noise.
  • Collaborative operating style — you connect dots across teams and make everyone’s work better.
