TITLE: WAVE Graduate Assistant
SUMMARY:
The WAVE Graduate Assistant position facilitates learning gains with at-risk teenagers and ensures their success at earning a high school diploma. The Graduate Assistant works in a blended, project based learning educational setting with a presence in our face to face lab with students guiding them in developing and completing curriculum projects that meet Michigan content expectations. The role of the Graduate Assistant is to work collaboratively with teachers to instruct, supervise, and support students in our learning spaces and to assist staff with grading, planning, small group instruction, and other administrative duties assigned by the program directors. In addition, collaboration will take place on a regular basis with other instructional staff. This position is year-round and follows the WAVE school calendar.

REPORTS TO: The WAVE Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to instruct, supervise, and support students in the learning spaces
  • Assist teachers with grading, planning, small group instruction
  • Develop positive and friendly rapport and communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, district leaders, and community members
  • Provide educational information to parents and families, and community agencies
  • Any other duties delegated by the Program Director
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with at-risk high school students.
  • Provide instruction and support in various subjects and assist students as needed.
  • Assist other staff in scheduling and advertising course support services and special events.
  • Help maintain the learning space (i.e., pick up used paper, put away inventory, etc.).
  • Attend required meetings, training, and participate in professional development.
  • Provide assistance during orientation days (depending on arranged schedule).
  • Guide students in the use of software applications.
  • Identify the interests and talents of the students to develop contexts in which they can expand their skills.
  • Encourage students to contribute to online learning communities.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Pay rate to be determined based on degree, experience, skills, and any educational certifications. Up to 30 hours per week, with some flexibility in hours.
PAY: $20+/hour based on certification and experience, Hiring and pay through Edustaff.
SCHEDULE: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm and Wednesdays 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, with some flexibility based on needs
