Recreation & Leisure Activities | Full-Time or Part-Time, Hourly

Safety, service, and stewardship at a premier waterfront destination

The LineUp at Wai Kai is seeking confident, attentive, and guest-focused Water Safety Attendants to support safe and memorable experiences across our premier waterfront destination. This role is essential to maintaining safety standards while creating a welcoming, professional environment for guests enjoying lagoon and wave-based activities.

Water Safety Attendants are cross-trained across multiple activities and play a visible, hands-on role in guest engagement, safety oversight, and daily operations throughout the Wai Kai Lagoon and Wave Pool.

This position is ideal for individuals who are comfortable in the water, calm under pressure, and passionate about outdoor recreation and guest care.

What Youll Do

Guest Interaction & Safety

  • Greet guests warmly and provide clear safety briefings for all activities

  • Maintain constant supervision of guests in and around the water

  • Educate guests on safety regulations and enforce facility guidelines

  • Assist guests with rental equipment including paddleboards, kayaks, and surf equipment

  • Monitor activities in the lagoon and wave basin to ensure safe operations

  • Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, and activate emergency action plans when required

Operations & Maintenance

  • Prepare activity areas by completing opening and closing checklists

  • Clean, set up, and maintain equipment and facilities

  • Perform routine equipment checks and minor maintenance tasks

  • Ensure all equipment is properly stowed and secured at the end of each day

Team Collaboration & Events

  • Work closely with team members and other departments to support daily operations

  • Assist with special events, races, and activities, including setup and breakdown

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors regarding safety, guest concerns, and operations

Reporting & Compliance

  • Complete detailed incident, safety, and maintenance reports

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, safety protocols, and risk management procedures

  • Participate in ongoing training, in-services, drills, and staff development sessions

General Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of Recreation & Leisure Activities

  • Strong swimming ability and comfort in various water conditions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations

  • Ability to stay alert and focused for extended periods

Certifications & Training

  • Must obtain StarGuard Lifeguard Certification and CPR/AED/First Aid upon hire

  • Ongoing participation in safety training, drills, and in-service sessions required

  • Hawai?i Boater Safety Certification required for Duffy Captain assignments

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous experience in water safety, recreation, or related fields preferred

  • Background in customer service or ocean/water sports (kayaking, paddleboarding, etc.) highly desirable

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to swim 550 yards, dive to at least 10 feet, and tread water for 2 minutes

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist guests in and out of the water

  • Frequent bending, twisting, standing, squatting, and physical activity required

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather, noise levels, and environmental conditions
