A waterproofing contractor specializes in preventing water from entering buildings or structures by applying techniques and materials that create moisture barriers. They work on foundations, basements, roofs, and other vulnerable areas to ensure they remain dry and protected from water damage. Their services may include installing drainage systems, sealing cracks, applying waterproof membranes, and conducting repairs to existing waterproofing systems. Hiring a waterproofing contractor can help prevent costly water-related issues and improve the durability of a property.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a waterproofing contractor?

To excel as a Waterproofing Contractor, you need in-depth knowledge of construction techniques, building codes, and waterproofing materials, often supported by relevant trade certifications or licensure. Familiarity with tools such as moisture meters, sealant applicators, and blueprint reading software is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are vital soft skills for diagnosing issues and coordinating with clients or teams. These competencies ensure durable, code-compliant waterproofing solutions that protect structures and satisfy client expectations.

What are some typical challenges a waterproofing contractor faces on the job site, and how can they be managed?

Waterproofing Contractors often encounter challenges such as unexpected weather conditions, site accessibility issues, and the discovery of structural damage while preparing surfaces. Managing these challenges requires adaptability, thorough site assessments before starting work, and clear communication with clients and other construction professionals. Staying updated on the latest materials and techniques also helps ensure effective solutions and minimizes delays, contributing to successful project outcomes.

Job description

Hybrid | Portland, OR

Nations Roof is one of the largest and most respected commercial roofing contractors in the United States, delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions nationwide. Our expertise spans all roofing systems, waterproofing, coatings, and sustainable technologies. We are driven by a commitment to safety, quality, and long-term partnerships—with our clients and our people.

Position Overview

We are seeking a consultative, relationship-focused Regional Sales Representative to drive strategic growth within the Panhandle market. This is a true sales role centered on developing new business, delivering value-based solutions, and cultivating long-term client partnerships.

The ideal candidate brings experience selling within a commercial contractor environment and understands how to navigate complex sales cycles. You will be responsible for originating opportunities, positioning value, and leading the commercial aspects of the sale, while partnering closely with our technical estimating and operations teams for project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the commercial construction and roofing sector
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans focused on long-term account growth and market expansion
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including building owners, property managers, developers, consultants, and general contractors
  • Lead value-driven sales conversations, positioning Nations Roof as a trusted partner rather than a commodity provider
  • Collaborate with internal estimating and operations teams to develop accurate scopes, pricing, and project strategies
  • Negotiate contracts and terms in alignment with company objectives, working in partnership with operations leadership as needed
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients throughout the project lifecycle to ensure satisfaction and drive repeat business
  • Represent Nations Roof in the marketplace through networking events, industry associations, and trade organizations

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–5+ years of sales experience within a commercial contractor environment (e.g., roofing, HVAC, electrical, paving, or similar)
  • Demonstrated success in prospecting, developing, and closing new business, as well as growing existing accounts
  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction sales cycle and project lifecycle
  • Proven ability to sell value and build long-term, trust-based client relationships
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally with estimating and operations teams
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel locally within the Chicago area

Benefits
  • Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission structure
  • Car allowance
  • Comprehensive benefits package: medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays; 401(k) with company match
  • Career growth opportunities within a national organization
