Job Title: Buyer

Job Description

The Buyer manages end-to-end procurement activities for all materials, from purchase request through on-time delivery and acceptance, ensuring alignment with the manufacturing schedule. This role coordinates closely with the Supply Chain team and broader business to support successful fulfillment of the manufacturing plan, improve on-time delivery to customers, and support strategic projects that advance facility and company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full procurement cycle for all materials from purchase request through on-time delivery and acceptance, ensuring dates align with the manufacturing schedule.
  • Coordinate procurement and supply chain activities with internal teams through direct collaboration to support the manufacturing plan and overall business objectives.
  • Drive actions and initiatives to improve on-time delivery performance to customers.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes, capabilities, and services to determine the most suitable suppliers and negotiate to meet budget and cost targets.
  • Align supplier delivery schedules with facility needs and obtain schedule and delivery confirmations from suppliers to mitigate delivery risks.
  • Proactively resolve issues related to material shortages, missed shipments, and late deliveries, including expediting orders when required.
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers on an ongoing basis to ensure quality products are received according to schedule and contractual commitments.
  • Collaborate with Quality teams to ensure supplier materials meet all specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Support and participate in strategic projects that contribute to facility and company goals within supply chain and procurement.
  • Resolve and manage supplier payment and invoice issues in a timely manner, working with internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain accurate data in inventory management systems and logistics databases, ensuring data integrity in support of program requirements.
  • Ensure all suppliers and procurement activities comply with established policies, procedures, and relevant standards.
  • Create, issue, and manage purchase orders, including tracking, follow-up, and documentation.
  • Use Microsoft Excel tools such as VLOOKUP and pivot tables to analyze purchasing, inventory, and supplier data.
  • Perform other related duties in purchasing, planning, and supply chain support as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • University degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Inventory/Resource Management, or a related program, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of buying and/or planning experience.
  • Strong computer skills in the Microsoft suite of programs, with emphasis on Excel and Project.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP functions and pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of inventory management processes and philosophies, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Just in Time (JIT).
  • Experience with purchasing, buying, and managing purchase orders.
  • Experience in expediting orders and resolving delivery issues.
  • Ability to manage procurement activities in a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CGD and Reliability clearances, as required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams such as Supply Chain, Quality, and Finance.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills for working with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in Buying/ procurement within manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with Purchase Order's (PO's), supplier coordination, and finding vendors
  • Experience working on large, complex projects in a fast-paced purchasing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support strategic supply chain and procurement initiatives.
  • High level of comfort with technology and systems, including inventory management and logistics databases.
  • Long-term career interest in supply chain, procurement, or materials management.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple concurrent purchasing activities.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite five days per week in Waterloo in an office environment. You will work as part of a close-knit team of four within a fast-paced purchasing function that supports large, complex projects for a major defense-focused organization. The role involves frequent interaction with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Quality, and other business functions, and regular use of ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and other digital tools. The environment emphasizes collaboration, responsiveness, and accuracy in managing procurement activities, with opportunities for long-term engagement and potential extension or conversion based on performance and business needs.
