Job description

 This role involves reading programs from engineered drawings and retrieving part drawings from engineering files as needed. The operator will load files into waterjet, plasma, and/or laser cutting machines using the appropriate software and ensure parts meet specifications by inspecting them with precision measuring instruments. Adjustments may be required to maintain tight tolerances and uphold the highest quality standards. The position also includes maintaining accurate daily inspection records and replacing consumable machine parts as necessary to keep equipment running efficiently. 
  • Work from operation traveler, prints, and oral instructions to plan work, select and procure tools and materials, and determine the proper and most efficient setup.
  • Develop and load CNC program, select appropriate cutting operation such as waterjet, plasma, and/or laser. Identify plate thickness and make appropriate speed adjustments. 
  • Programming new parts as needed.
  • Monitor machine operation, verify accuracy of settings and program, detect malfunctions or out of tolerance features, use precision measuring instruments, make machine adjustments as needed to control process.
  • First piece inspection is required or until the parts meets specifications.
  • Run more than one machine at the same time as required.
  • Report damage or machine faults to supervisor.
  • Use various measuring devices to ensure work is to print specifications including, but not limited to, micrometers, verniers, thread and plug gauges.
  • Use cranes, dollies and carts to obtain and return material from the storage area.
  • Work directly with the material handler to load and unload plates to the tables and to move completed jobs to the next operation as needed.  
  • Clean and maintain work area as well as machines, tools, and equipment to ensure optimal condition.
  • Perform all job functions in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Identify and assist in remediation of all safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Team Leader/Supervisor.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • General computer skills, experience in AutoCAD and CNC software.
  • Must be able to use measuring equipment such as measuring tapes, verniers and calipers, and read gauges.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift and overhead crane certifications to pick up material.
  • Seft starter who is motivated and able to work independently as needed.
