Job description

SSP is seeking a Senior Consultant to help us continue our practice of delivering high-quality advisory services to a broad portfolio of clients within the energy and utility industries. The role will have the following responsibilities: 

  • Provide overall operational and technical leadership for various electric and gas consulting programs with a focus on Esri Geospatial solutions. 
  • Represent the company to prospects and existing customers. Work with utility personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide presentations and conduct workshops to identify, define and capture business and technical requirements and best practices.
  • Manage deliverables for the consulting projects, including use-case development, requirements gathering, and large scale implementation strategy and road maps and reports. 
  • Coordinate and monitor consulting projects from initiation through delivery. Serve as liaisons between SSP and client to ensure all targets and requirements are met. 
  • Decompose high-level business requirements and user requirements into functional requirements, specified in an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by those who base their work on the requirements.
  • Identify operational system interfaces, constraints, and other nonfunctional requirements.
  • Work individually or within a team on technology consulting projects to meet specific customer requirements. 
  • Serve as a mentor to senior and entry-level consultants, developers, and engineers. Coach and manage consultant-level resources and actively participate in the performance expectation process.
  • Provide business development support to the sales team members and account managers, including preparation and estimation of proposals for consulting and implementation projects.
  • Create business relationships and support sales generation with high-level contacts often through face-to-face and client site visits. Maintaining an ongoing business relationship with current clients to facilitate future sales. 
  • Actively participate in thought leadership activities such as blogs, conferences and public speaking opportunities.

Requirements

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. 

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent), or equivalent utility and consulting work experience. 
  • Knowledge of electric, gas and/or water utilities. Gas Distribution experience is a plus.
  • 10 years of work experience in support of related utility consulting or large scale process/technology projects. 
  • Reasonable understanding and familiarity with Esri GIS technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications and customer relations skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional integrity. 
  • Willing to travel of 25-35% of the time. 
  • Strong PC skills required, including use of standard MS Office applications and Microsoft Project. 
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and shift work efforts based on the needs of the department or business goals.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position. 

  • Managerial and supervision skills. 
  • Familiarity with utility operational technologies including Asset and Work Management Systems/Outage Management Systems /Advanced Distribution Management Systems /Advanced Metering Infrastructure/Mobile products.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance for gas utilities (Integrity Management Plans)
  • Good understanding of utility business processes.
  • Established professional network and demonstrated track record in business development and sales of consulting services in the utility industry. 
  • Project management methodology background, including schedule, scope, issue and risk management experience, and project budget tracking.
