Job description

Quality Assurance Supervisor – Day Shift
Location: Fredericksburg, PA
Salary: $55,000–$70,000 per year
Schedule: Day shift, typically Monday through Friday
Department: Food Safety and Quality Assurance

We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Supervisor to lead food-safety and quality operations within a perishable food-processing facility.

The right candidate must have previous QA experience in poultry, meat, seafood, dairy, refrigerated foods, or another perishable food-processing environment. Direct experience working with USDA or another regulatory agency is required.

This position supervises approximately 8 to 10 Quality Assurance employees and plays a key role in HACCP, SSOP, regulatory compliance, audits, corrective actions, laboratory testing, documentation, and employee development.

Candidates whose experience is limited to general manufacturing quality control will not be considered.

What You’ll Do
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and develop approximately 8 to 10 QA employees
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, SSOP, GMP, animal-welfare, and prerequisite programs
  • Review and maintain HACCP, SSOP, pre-operational, and quality documentation
  • Maintain direct communication with USDA and other regulatory representatives
  • Respond to regulatory concerns and ensure corrective actions are completed
  • Investigate product-quality issues, customer complaints, and process deviations
  • Document root causes and corrective and preventive actions
  • Prepare the facility for third-party, customer, organic, animal-welfare, GFSI, and co-packer audits
  • Oversee environmental and microbiological testing programs
  • Verify laboratory procedures, testing records, inventories, and equipment calibration
  • Train employees on new food-safety and quality procedures
  • Ensure the QA department is properly staffed and organized
  • Manage attendance, scheduling, overtime, performance reviews, and progressive discipline
  • Serve as backup to the QA Manager when required
  • Work closely with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and plant leadership
Testing and Program Oversight May Include
  • Salmonella, Campylobacter, and E. coli testing
  • Environmental swabbing
  • Water sampling
  • Fat analysis
  • Equipment calibration
  • Organic and antibiotic-free program requirements
  • Pesticide-residue testing
  • Calcium and bone-percentage verification
  • Animal-welfare and food-safety programs

RequirementsRequired Experience
  • Previous Quality Assurance experience in perishable food processing
  • Supervisory experience within a food-manufacturing QA department
  • Direct experience communicating with USDA or other regulatory agencies
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, sanitation, regulatory documentation, and corrective actions
  • Experience preparing for audits and responding to audit findings
  • Strong documentation, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead QA technicians in a demanding plant environment
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Poultry-processing quality experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Poultry Science, Animal Science, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
  • HACCP certification
  • GFSI, SQF, BRCGS, or related food-safety certification
  • Experience with organic, antibiotic-free, animal-welfare, or customer-specific programs

BenefitsCompensation

The salary range is $55,000–$70,000 per year, depending on experience.

Additional flexibility may be available for candidates who possess strong poultry-processing experience, direct USDA interaction, relevant certifications, supervisory experience, and a proven audit background.

Schedule and Work Environment

The typical schedule is approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional hours, weekend work, second-shift coverage, or pre-operational inspection support may occasionally be required.

This position includes work in a food-processing plant with:

  • Temperature changes
  • Refrigerated production areas
  • Wet conditions
  • Elevated noise levels
  • Extended periods of walking and standing
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds

Apply with a resume that clearly identifies your food-processing QA experience, regulatory interaction, certifications, and supervisory responsibilities.
