POSITION DESCRIPTION
Huron Valley Schools is seeking a professional Head Lifeguard that ensures effective performance of lifeguard functions. Assists in hiring, training, scheduling and appraising lifeguards. Ensures that life saving certification is current. Ensures that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures. Coordinates with lifeguards to ensure safety of patrons in and around the pools, monitoring swimmers, and to enforce all safety rules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 2 years paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience.
  • Must possess an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.
  • Must possess an American Red Cross certification in Community First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Must possess an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
  • Must be willing to work mornings, midday, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and motivate staff and co-workers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and motivate patrons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary.
  • Ensures swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on the decks. Fills in for lifeguards as needed.
  • Responds to emergency and distress situations.
  • Orientation for new lifeguards in regards to job duties and responsibilities. Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
  • Schedules, coordinates and conducts inservice training. Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques.
  • Scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained during operating hours.
  • Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
  • Keeps the management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
  • Ensures the cleanliness in and around the pool area.
  • Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be replenished and communicates the needs to the Supervisor.
  • Ensures all aquatic equipment is well maintained and replaced as necessary.
  • Provides assistance with group water fitness classes.
  • Assists with scheduling aquatic activities with the Facility Scheduler, Supervisor and Director of Rec & Ed.
  • Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues.
  • Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or equivalent.
LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Working knowledge of lifesaving techniques including backboard rescue. Strong swimming and lifesaving abilities. Ability to communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and other employees. Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible. Ability to be a team player.
