Role Summary

The Manager, Engineering is responsible for the daytoday technical execution of new product development and continuous improvement activities in an ISO 13485 environment. This role serves as the primary technical extension of the Head of Global New Products Engineering, translating leadershiplevel strategy into executable engineering plans and results.

The Engineering Manager provides direct people and technical leadership to assigned engineering teams of 5-6 people and is accountable for engineering execution, technical decisionmaking, and delivery quality. This role ensures engineering workstreams are progressing as planned and that technical risks, issues, and tradeoffs are actively managed.

The Engineering Manager is the daytoday engineering owner for assigned programs, serving as the primary technical resource for Marketing, Project Management, Quality, Operations, and Compliance and representing engineering in crossfunctional execution and issue resolution.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the daytoday technical execution of assigned new product development and sustaining engineering projects; responsible for managing engineering workstreams to meet project objectives, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Accountable for technical ownership of assigned programs; responsible for engineering decisionmaking, technical tradeoffs, risk identification, and timely escalation of issues as needed.
  • Accountable for people leadership of assigned engineering team members including both mechanical and electrical disciplines; responsible for coaching, technical guidance, prioritization of work, supporting professional development including performance reviews.
  • Accountable for serving as the engineering point of contact for crossfunctional stakeholders; responsible for supporting Marketing, Project Management, Quality, Operations, and Compliance with technical input, issue resolution, and execution alignment.
  • Accountable for the technical integrity of engineering deliverables; responsible for managing design execution, verification activities, and coordination of internal and external engineering resources as required.
  • Accountable for effective use of engineering resources on assigned programs; responsible for participating in project resource planning and allocation to align capacity with business priorities.
  • Accountable for supporting continuous improvement within engineering; responsible for participating in improvements to engineering processes and procedures, design practices, and continuous improvement activities.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree in a technical science discipline, with a minimum of ten (10) years of product design experience. A Master's degree may be substituted for up to three (3) years of experience (minimum seven (7) years total).
  • Demonstrated experience in electromechanical product design, including mechanisms, motors, actuators, batteries, or similar systems. Experience in consumer product development is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of people management experience in a product design environment preferred.
  • Experience designing products intended for highervolume manufacturing, including consideration of manufacturability, assembly, and quality at scale. Experience working with offshore manufacturing partners is a plus.
  • Knowledge of plastic molded part design, electromechanical mechanisms, and highervolume design philosophies is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting sustaining engineering and continuous improvement activities, including design updates, quality improvements, cost reductions, and lifecycle support.
  • Exposure to consumer and/or medical device product development environments is beneficial.

Supervisory Duties

  • Direct Supervision
    Provides direct supervisory responsibility for assigned engineering team members, including setting technical direction, prioritizing work, coaching and development, supporting professional development including performance reviews, and accountability for execution, performance, and delivery of engineering outcomes on assigned programs.
  • Indirect / Functional Leadership
    Provides technical direction and execution leadership to crossfunctional partners (including Marketing, Operations, Project Management, Quality, and Compliance) on assigned programs by supplying engineering input, defining technical requirements, influencing priorities, and shaping execution decisions, without direct managerial authority.

Location

  • Inoffice position with the current work expectation of being onsite at the Fort Collins facility on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Remote work on Monday and Friday may be utilized where it does not negatively impact deliverables, timelines, productivity, or effective collaboration with direct reports or crossfunctional team members.

Travel

  • International Travel
    Periodic international travel to supplier locations in Asia may be required to support product development and manufacturing activities. Expected travel is up to 1-2 trips per year, with typical duration of one to two weeks per trip, based on business need.
  • Domestic Travel
    Occasional domestic travel may be required to support tradeshows, corporate meetings, or other business needs, typically up to 3-4 trips per year.

Salary and Benefits

Waterpik, Inc., a partner company of Church & Dwight Company, Inc., supports our employee's wellbeing and regularly benchmarks with other companies in our industry to offer an extensive Total Reward package for this position. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay parity. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $110,900. - $157,900., with bonus eligibility when applicable.
