JOB TITLE: Equipment Operator - Water/Sewer

LOCATION: Water/Sewer, Department of Public Works

POSITION: Grade 4, full-time, benefit eligible

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week Mon-Fri, mandatory participation intown-wide emergencies and snow and ice removal operations.

REPORTS TO: ย Chief Water DistributionOperator and Chief Water Treatment Operator

PAY RANGE: $28.23 to $35.92 in eight steps

1.ย ย Natureof Work:ย  Assists supervisor in any and all phases of the work,performs skilled wok as determined and assigned by supervisor for the Town'spublic water supply and treatment systems.ย  Makes frequent contact withco-workers and residents requiring calm, clear and courteous communication.

2.ย ย SupervisionReceived:ย  Works under the general supervision of the Water/Sewersupervisors.ย  Operates equipment based on supervisor's generalinstructions who reviews performance for skill and efficiency and assist incases of difficulty.

3.ย ย SupervisoryResponsibility:ย  Supervises temporary or seasonal employees asassigned.

4.ย ย Confidentiality:ย Employee has regular access to confidential information of thedepartment.ย  Confidentiality must be maintained with regard to thisinformation and in accordance with Department Policy and the Public RecordsAct.

17.)ย ย ย ย ย ย Assistswith grounds maintenance work at all facilities including mowing, stringtrimming, chain sawing, leaf and brush removal.

19.)ย ย ย ย ย ย Isavailable for overtime and call backs in the event of emergencies.

20.)ย ย ย ย ย ย Participatesin town-wide snow and ice removal operations.

21.)ย  ย ย  ย Assists in the operation and maintenance of the wastewatertreatment plant, associated lift stations, grinder pumps and collection systemsfor the Town's shared septic and sewer systems.ย 

10.ย ย RecommendedMinimum Qualificationย 

Education andExperience:ย  Must have ahigh school diploma or equivalent, two years of full time water distribution orcomparable work experience and prior and demonstrable ability to dealeffectively with fellow employees, supervisors and the general public or anyequivalent combination of education, training, and experience which providesthe required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essentialfunctions of the position.

Special Requirements:ย  Must possess valid MassachusettsDrivers License, Grade 1 Distribution Full Operator certification, Hydraulicsand CDL Class B licenses.ย 

11.ย ย Knowledge,Abilities and Skill:

- Knowledge of thelaws, rules, regulations pertaining to water/sewer distribution and treatmentoperations.

- Considerable anddemonstrable skill, in the use of tools and the operation of equipment requiredin the performance of water/sewer distribution and treatment work.

- Ability to dealappropriately and harmoniously with public officials, the general public,supervisors and co-workers.

12.ย ย WorkEnvironment:ย  The nature of duties may involve continuous presence ofunpleasant or irritating elements, such as noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust,smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt, or grease.ย  Work is performed indoors andoutdoors regardless of weather conditions.
