Salary: $33,912.00 - $42,422.00 Annually Location : Normal Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202300118 Department: Bulldog Transit Systems Opening Date: 11/17/2023 Description Summary: Safely drive/operate a 12-52 vans/passenger buses on campus and to locations off-campus and or out of town trips on a regular schedule or as assigned. This is a 9-month position. Examples of Duties Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily inspections as required.
  • Fill gas, diesel, oil and charge when needed.
  • Promptly report maintenance issues.
  • Assist passengers with physical deficits on and off of vehicle, ensuring safe transportation.
  • Keep record of passenger numbers and/or log-book as required.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor and or designated dispatcher.
  • Complete all pre and post-trip inspections.
  • Enforce federal, state and University guidelines for bus riders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in driving a bus is required.
  • Clean Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger and air brake endorsements is required.
  • Previous or current public transportation or experience with large passenger vehicles is preferred.
  • Must be able to work various shift, including weekends and out of town travel.

Essential Functions:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check/ drug test.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement and DOT Physical Certificate is a requirement for this job.
  • As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation including random drug and alcohol testing.
