BHC Consultants is a consulting engineering, planning, and building code and construction compliance firm with offices in Seattle, Tacoma, and Bellingham, Washington. We are in need of a full-time Water/Wastewater Hydraulic Modeler to join our team of experienced hydraulic modelers in one of our office locations. Collaboration with staff in all offices should be expected; preferred location can be prioritized.

BHC has a long history of assisting many different municipal clients in the Pacific Northwest with water, wastewater, and stormwater hydraulic modeling services including systemwide analyses for utility comprehensive plans, pre-design studies, system optimization, water age and hydraulic transient analyses and on-call modeling services supporting a variety of client needs.

TheWater/Wastewater Hydraulics Modelerwill:

  • Utilize commercial software to statistically and graphically analyze data and develop and calibrate hydraulic models of wastewater collection and water distribution systems.
  • Apply modeling software to effectively diagnose utility system deficiencies, identify efficient improvements to resolve deficiencies and plan for growth, and effectively communicate all phases of model development and analysis.
  • Develop and evaluate control alternatives and strategies for optimization.
  • Document methods and results in written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams and clients serving in roles including project engineer, technical lead, and project manager.
  • Support utility planning, evaluation, and modeling services through custom tool development, advanced data analytics, and exploration of emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil, Environmental, or similar Engineering.
  • 2-5+ years of applicable experience.
  • PE, or EIT with a track to obtain PE (or ability to obtain through reciprocity).
  • Experience in data management for model import, model development, calibration, and performance of a wide range of analysis scenarios.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
  • Ability to work within ESRI ArcGIS and ArcGIS PRO.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
  • Ideal candidate is self-motivated, attentive to detail, an excellent communicator (written and verbal), and able to work independently and collaboratively with a project team.


The following would also be of benefit:

  • M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience utilizing InfoWater/InfoWater Pro, WaterGems, InfoSWMM, XPSWMM, PCSWMM, MIKE Urban/MIKE+ and InfoWorks ICM, or SewerGems.
  • Interest or experience with programming for task automation.
