Job description

KFS, LLC is growing our NEPA and environmental services team and is looking for a GIS & Field Data Coordinator to support projects nationwide. This person will build and manage mobile data collection systems, oversee the transfer and processing of large environmental datasets, and get out in the field to help collect biological and cultural resources data in support of NEPA compliance, waters and wetlands permitting, and biological habitat assessments. The role works closely with KFS staff as well as subcontractors and agency partners. Ideal candidates will have 5-7 years of experience in field data collection with mobile GIS applications, data analysis and data transfer, natural resources. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Set up and administer mobile data collection databases (Survey123, Field Maps, Collector, or similar platforms) for field teams working on NEPA, wetlands, and cultural resources projects.
  • Manage the transfer, QA/QC, and processing of large volumes of GIS and field data collected across multiple project sites.
  • Support and participate in field data collection efforts including wetland delineations, biological habitat assessments, and cultural resources surveys.
  • Coordinate directly with KFS project staff, subcontractors, and federal and state agency representatives on data needs and deliverables.
  • Produce maps, figures, and geospatial deliverables for NEPA documents, permitting packages, and client reports.
  • Help troubleshoot field technology issues and train field staff on data collection tools and workflows.
  • Collaborate with our AI/IT specialist to develop workflow efficiencies.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study required; GIS certificate or minor preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in field data collection and natural resources.
  • Hands-on experience collecting field data in support of waters and wetlands permitting and biological habitat assessments.
  • Proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) and mobile data collection platforms.
  • Experience managing and processing large environmental datasets.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments; able to work both independently and as part of a project team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Experience background in biological or cultural resources.
  • Experience with Determination of Waters (DoW) or similar wetland delineation work.
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD).
  • Candidates who possess an active Secret clearance and relevant DoD experience may be considered for compensation at the higher end of the posted salary range.

Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weight up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary.
