The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
In this position you can expect to work on site at Rosedale Park Headquarters located at 2375 S. Logan St. Denver 80210. The typical schedule will be Monday through Friday, 6am - 2:30pm. Some weekends are possible during irrigation season.
Who We Are & What You'll Do
Denver Parks Water Conservation is a Citywide Park Operations Team specializing in water management, central control, resilient landscape renovations, lake management, and irrigation installation.
In this position, you will perform professional level work on designated programs within Water Conservation. You will be responsible for organizing, planning, administering and monitoring the centralized irrigation system and related components. You will manage and plan the work of district irrigation staff in collaboration with district park leadership. You will also provide program leadership, training, direction, and long and shortterm planning for the program area(s), manage program design, policy development, and performance criteria for program operations, while making budgetary and resource allocation decisions.
Specifically, as the Program Manager of Water Conservation you will:
Establish overall Water Program Manager goals to align with core City values, supervise the development of comprehensive program policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards to ensure proper application and use by planning and implementing or revising administrative processes
Conduct scheduling audits to determine specific irrigation requirements to meet City standards and water conservation goals in parks
Manage Parks irrigation database operations, including scheduling, programming, and implementing watering schedules
Bidirectionally assign work requests through computerized task tracking system
Deliver outstanding customer service for Central Control field issues, with the goal of implementing a working solution within one business day and achieving full resolution within 2 business days
Administer all aspects of the City weather network, including programming, maintenance, and maintaining accurate records of critical weather data.
Design and administer a comprehensive training program on Central Control and basic irrigation troubleshooting for all City maintenance technicians
Act as a spokesperson for the Water Conservation program, advancing the primary mission and goals, interacting with internal and external interest groups to explain program position, mediate differences, and seek modifications
Supervise program staff or matrix manages and plan the work of staff in program area
Review, develop, or modify work plans, methods and procedures, determine work priorities and develop work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provide work instruction and assist employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments; encourage innovation. Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion
Resolve problems and mediate conflicts encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions while promoting teamwork. Encourage regular communication, inform staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization
Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of staff members, provide technical expertise to staff, and establish unit and staff work goals and objectives
Develop goals, document performance, provide performance feedback and formally evaluate the work of the employee; provide reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Assist staff to achieve performance standards and identify opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards
Ensure quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of unit activities and safety measures
Participate in planning and managing budget systems; prepare and present budget recommendations to higher management; operate within budget parameters; adjust work plans/activities because of budget changes
Performs other related duties as assigned.
