Job description
The successful applicant will have command-at-sea and dynamic positioning experience, familiarity with oceanographic research ship operations, and experience operating in high latitude and polar regions. The successful applicant will also have a firm grasp of policy and regulations including but not limited to: US Coast Guard rules and regulations; ISM, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requirements and vessel stability, Maritime Laws, Hazardous Materials, MARPOL, SOLAS, OSHA regulations, and regulations and requirements as in inspected vessel under 46 CFR Subchapter U. As this role involves collaboration with many different groups, strong interpersonal skills are necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess the following: a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential endorsed as Unlimited Tonnage Oceans Chief Mate, GMDSS Operator, and Radar Observer Unlimited. Applicants must have all applicable training as required by the Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
The following unexpired documents are also required: U.S. Passport, TWIC card, unexpired (STCW Expiration date) USCG medical certification, and a valid drivers license. Applicants must also be able to pass a pre-employment DOT drug test.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Salary Schedule , Grade 82, based on education and experience
