Watching Security Camera information

What does a person do when watching security cameras?

A person who watches security cameras, often called a security camera monitor or surveillance operator, is responsible for observing live or recorded video feeds to detect suspicious activities, security breaches, or safety incidents. Their duties may include reporting unusual behavior, contacting law enforcement if necessary, and maintaining detailed logs of incidents. These professionals help protect property, assets, and people by ensuring that any security threats are identified and addressed promptly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a security camera monitor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Security Camera Monitor, you need keen observational skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CCTV systems, video surveillance software, and alarm monitoring tools is typically required. Strong situational awareness, integrity, and the ability to communicate clearly under pressure are valuable soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for promptly identifying and responding to security incidents, ensuring the safety and protection of people and property.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals monitoring security cameras, and how can they be managed effectively?

One of the main challenges in this role is maintaining sustained attention during long periods of surveillance, as it can be easy to lose focus during uneventful shifts. Additionally, distinguishing between harmless activities and genuine security threats requires strong observational skills and sound judgment. Professionals often manage these challenges by following structured monitoring routines, using checklists, and taking scheduled breaks to stay alert. Collaboration with on-site security teams and clear reporting protocols also help ensure that any suspicious activity is addressed promptly and effectively.

Full-Time | $30–$45 Per Hour Based on Experience

Build Systems That Set the Standard

OnPoint Tech Systems designs, installs, and supports advanced technology systems for luxury homes and commercial environments throughout South Florida.

We work with smart home automation, lighting control, audio/video, networking, security, access control, and electrical systems. Our projects are engineered integrations—not cookie-cutter installations.

We’re looking for a capable Level 2–3 Technician / Systems Integrator who wants more than just another job. We want someone who takes ownership, solves problems, works well with a team, and is committed to becoming better at their craft.

If you’re capable of more than pulling wire and mounting TVs, we should talk.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, configure, test, and troubleshoot integrated technology systems
  • Work with Control4, Crestron, Savant, RTI, and Lutron
  • Set up residential and commercial audio/video systems
  • Configure and troubleshoot networks for connected systems
  • Install security cameras and access control systems
  • Build clean, organized equipment racks
  • Diagnose issues across multiple technologies
  • Complete labeling, documentation, testing, and project photos
  • Assist with system commissioning and client walkthroughs
  • Work alongside project leads, programmers, electricians, and technicians
The Technician We’re Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have hands‑on experience in automation, AV, networking, security, or low‑voltage integration
  • Understand system architecture, signal flow, and troubleshooting
  • Can complete quality work with limited supervision
  • Take pride in clean racks, organized wiring, and accurate labeling
  • Show up prepared and follow through on your responsibilities
  • Communicate professionally with clients and teammates
  • Look for solutions instead of excuses
  • Want to build a long‑term career and earn greater responsibility

Experience with Control4, Crestron, Savant, RTI, Lutron, networking, or commercial AV systems is strongly preferred. You do not need to know every platform, but you need the technical foundation, discipline, and drive to keep learning.

Our Culture and Work Environment

At OnPoint, average work is not good enough—but that doesn’t mean work can’t be enjoyable.

We’re a tight‑knit, growing team that works hard, supports one another, has fun, and takes pride in what we accomplish together. You’ll work on exciting projects, use leading technology, and be part of a company where your contribution matters.

Everyone contributes. Everyone is accountable. We celebrate wins, learn from mistakes, and help each other improve. Advancement is earned through performance, attitude, consistency, and the value you bring to the team.

Compensation and Growth
  • $30–$45 per hour based on experience and technical ability
  • Full-time, consistent work
  • Residential and commercial projects
  • Fun, team-oriented work environment
  • Industry‑leading technology and premium systems
  • Training and performance‑based advancement
Strong technicians can grow into positions such as:
  • Lead Systems Integrator
  • Automation Programmer
  • System Designer or Engineer
  • Project Management
  • Sales Representative

We promote from within and invest in people who consistently prove they want to improve.
