What are watchmakers?

Watchmakers are skilled professionals who design, build, repair, and maintain watches and clocks. They use specialized tools to assemble intricate mechanical or electronic components, ensuring timepieces function accurately and reliably. Watchmakers often encounter challenges such as handling intricate mechanical components, keeping up with evolving technology (like smartwatches), and sourcing rare or discontinued parts for vintage timepieces. Attention to detail and steady hands are essential to avoid damaging delicate mechanisms. Many watchmakers join professional associations or attend specialized workshops to stay updated on industry advances and to network for hard-to-find components. Collaboration with colleagues in repair shops or with manufacturers can also help overcome technical hurdles.
