Job description

Position Overview

Seeking a Distribution & Collection Operator to lead a team performing operation, maintenance, repair, and installation work across water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Candidates with strong sewer/plumbing and collection system experience are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support Distribution & Collection Operators in daily field activities.
  • Perform water and sewer line installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair leaks, line breaks, defective sewer lines, and related infrastructure.
  • Clean and clear sewer lines and perform lift station wet-well cleaning.
  • Perform point repairs and adjust or replace manhole covers and frames.
  • Install and service water meters and meter boxes.
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of water/wastewater equipment, pumps, machinery, and distribution/collection lines.
  • Operate heavy construction equipment including backhoes, cranes, forklifts, dump trucks, and trenchwork equipment.
  • Perform excavation, trenching, compaction, and backfilling according to engineering specifications.
  • Restore excavated areas, including landscaping, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Conduct daily and weekly preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Complete work orders, field complaint forms, and required documentation.
  • Respond to water pressure issues and customer/service complaints.
  • Participate in rotating 24/7 after-hours, weekend, and holiday call-out coverage.
  • Follow all safety procedures and operational requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • FDEP Class 3 Distribution Operator License or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Construction experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong experience with water distribution, sewer collection, plumbing, or utility construction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FDEP Class 2 Distribution Operator License or ability to obtain.
  • FWPCOA Class C Collections License or ability to obtain.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain.
  • Experience leading or supervising field utility crews.
  • Hands-on sewer/plumbing and collection system experience.

Ideal Candidate

A hands-on utility professional with water/sewer collection experience, strong plumbing and construction skills, and the ability to lead field crews while responding to maintenance and emergency service needs.
