Wash Associate information

What is a wash associate?

Wash Associates are employees responsible for cleaning vehicles, typically at car washes or detailing centers. Their duties may include pre-washing, scrubbing, rinsing, drying, and sometimes providing interior cleaning services. They ensure that vehicles are cleaned efficiently and meet quality standards, often working as part of a team. Wash Associates may also interact with customers, handle cleaning equipment, and maintain a safe work environment. This role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and good customer service skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wash associate?

To thrive as a Wash Associate, you need strong attention to detail, basic mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow safety and cleaning protocols, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with industrial washers, cleaning agents, and safety equipment is often required. Reliability, teamwork, and good communication are key soft skills for efficiently coordinating with coworkers and maintaining high cleanliness standards. These skills and qualities are important to ensure operational efficiency, workplace safety, and customer satisfaction in cleaning and maintenance environments.

What are some typical challenges a wash associate might face during a shift, and how are they addressed?

Wash Associates often work in fast-paced environments where managing multiple vehicles or laundry loads efficiently can be challenging, especially during peak hours. Dealing with varying levels of cleanliness and different types of stains or debris requires attention to detail and adaptability. Teamwork and clear communication with colleagues are essential for maintaining workflow and meeting quality standards. Most employers provide thorough training and clear protocols to help associates handle these challenges, along with access to supervisors for support when needed.

Job description

Recruiter
Location: Hybrid - Nashville Region
Status: Full-Time
Reports To: HR Director
Compensation: $55,000-$65,000 annually + benefits
About Us:
At Wash Associates, our mission is to be our community's preferred car wash brand by obsessively pursuing excellence in all things. We take pride in maintaining high standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Our core values guide our approach to business and customer service: a strive-not-arrived attitude, the belief that good enough is not good enough, the importance of healthy communication rooted in respect, reliance on data-driven decision-making, and embracing a lean mindset.
About the Role:
We are looking for our first dedicated Recruiter to own hiring for frontline and site-level roles across all of our locations in Illinois and Tennessee. Reporting into the Director of HR, the Recruiter will own the hiring process end-to-end - from posting the job to extending the offer - while General Managers retain the final interview and hire decision at their site. This role is vital to finding the best people to fit our culture and values across a fast-growing, multi-site organization, and will require strong organization, communication, and judgment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Post and manage job openings across all sites in Illinois and Tennessee
  • Source and screen candidates, including conducting first-round phone screens
  • Schedule and coordinate interviews between candidates and General Managers
  • Partner with GMs to understand site-specific hiring needs and timelines
  • Extend offers and complete onboarding paperwork, handing off cleanly to HR
  • Route candidates to the right location when fit or availability shifts across sites
  • Track and report on key metrics, including time-to-fill, 90-day retention, and GM satisfaction
  • Build and maintain a values-based screening rubric in partnership with HR and site leadership
  • Provide regular feedback loops with GMs after each hiring cycle to continuously improve the process
  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives within the hiring process as the company scales

Key Requirements:
Required:
  • 3+ years of experience in recruiting or talent acquisition, ideally in multi-site, hourly, or high-volume hiring environments
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly with both candidates and operational leaders

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or other related field
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems and recruiting tools, including BreezyHR
  • A genuine eye for culture fit, beyond resume keywords
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple open roles and pipelines simultaneously across two states
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Highest ethical standards, integrity, authenticity, credibility and character
