Responsibilities

The COS Material Handler I position's primary purpose is receiving, filling, and shipping products accurately and efficiently. Ensures all products are readily available to be filled and ensures necessary paperwork is completed. May be assigned all or some of the various warehouse job functions including but not limited to receiving, order fulfillment, product picking, wrapping and packing, stock replenishment, customer will call, and inventory cycle counts.

  • Operates power equipment (i.e. electric pallet, walkie rider, sit-down forklift) in a safe and efficient manner to locate, put away, stack, and move checked-in products to correct storage locations on a daily basis. This includes stocking, filling bin boxes, facing cartons, checking for product mixing, and rotating product where needed; monitoring stock on shelves or bins; replenishing stock from reserves; maintaining control of products in reserve stock area or will call area.
  • Receives product by unloading trucks using forklift, pallet jack, electric pallet jack, or by hand.
  • Ensures shipments received are in good condition and accurate by: inspecting freight for damage and signing freight bills; verifying quantity ordered versus quantity received; checking all shipments against packing lists; and completing necessary paperwork for reimbursements or discrepancies.
  • Ensures all required products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning products, printing labels, resolving labeling discrepancies, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Fills orders by picking products, packing items into cartons, stacking them in a manner that minimizes damage, entering items into scan gun, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Documents the shipment of hazardous materials by labeling cartons correctly and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Prepares orders by: preparing trucks for shipments; palletizing and wrapping orders; loading pallets and pieces into trucks; placing packing list in last skid; and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Maintains current accuracy and efficiency standards and follows all standard operating procedures.
  • May participate in inventory cycle counts and other related projects in current location and/or the market as assigned.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by working in a safe manner, following safety rules, maintaining equipment, and maintaining a clean work area. Promptly reports any safety or maintenance concerns to supervisors.
  • Always wears protective equipment according to company policies and procedures. Accesses Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed and when appropriate.
  • Maintains required hazardous materials, forklift, and other internal and external certifications as needed.
  • Maintains professional communications when interacting with customers and coworkers. Treats all customers and coworkers with a helpful and courteous attitude.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Required:
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 0 - 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with a picker, forklift, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
  • Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Forklift certification required, or willingness to obtain on the job.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work safely in all job tasks.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and maneuver large/heavy products or pieces of equipment while working within established safety guidelines.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to attend to details.
  • Ability to work with others in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to utilize necessary technology to complete tasks, such as RF equipment and ERP software .
  • While multilingual skills are valued, English proficiency (written and spoken) is a core requirement for this position due to the nature of the work, safety regulations, and to ensure accurate communication and comprehension.

Pay: $19.00-$21.00/hr

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am - 5pm, rotational Saturday 7am - 12pm

Physical Demand

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, and walk on a concrete floor for much of the workday. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and carry and/or move up to 50 pounds and required to lift more weight with mechanical assistance or the assistance of team members. For driving duties (if applicable), employee is required to sit for long periods of time and can experience bouncing and vibration. The individual is frequently required to talk or hear. Special vision requirements are near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and color vision.
