Job description

Position Overview

The Dock Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day execution of all dock operations, ensuring equipment moves efficiently, accurately, and safely through the warehouse. This role serves as the operational lead for inbound and outbound gear movement, coordinating truck schedules, load-outs, returns, shipping and receiving activities, and labor assignments while maintaining alignment with warehouse procedures and company standards. The Dock Supervisor works closely with Warehouse and Operations Managers, Logistics, Production, and departmental teams to ensure equipment is prepared, loaded, received, and processed in a way that supports successful shows and projects across all markets. 

General Tasks / Duties

Below is a general list of the tasks and duties:

Dock Operations

  • Oversee daily dock operations, including truck scheduling, load-in/load-out coordination, equipment staging, and workflow execution. 
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound equipment movement, ensuring deliveries, pickups, and transfers are executed accurately and on schedule. 
  • Manage shipping requests from internal stakeholders, including obtaining freight quotes, coordinating transportation options, scheduling shipments, and communicating shipping timelines and costs.
  • Ensure trucks are loaded efficiently and meet all project, show, and transportation requirements before departure. 
  • Monitor dock activity throughout the day, adjusting priorities and labor resources as operational needs change.

Shipping, Receiving & Inventory Control

  • Manage incoming and outgoing shipping and receiving activities, including vendor deliveries, sub-rentals, equipment returns, and intercompany transfers. 
  • Verify equipment counts, labeling, packaging, and documentation during load-outs and returns. 
  • Ensure show paperwork, manifests, and inventory records align with equipment movements.
  • Assist with inventory transactions in Flex Rental Solutions, reporting discrepancies and escalating damaged, missing, or unaccounted-for equipment. 
  • Support inventory accuracy through disciplined equipment tracking and documentation.

Leadership & Warehouse Coordination

  • Help supervise warehouse personnel, including full-time employees and freelance labor, ensuring appropriate staffing coverage for daily dock activities. 
  • Assign work priorities and direct daily dock activities to maximize efficiency and throughput.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, urgency, and accuracy across all dock operations. 
  • Provide training and coaching on warehouse procedures, equipment handling, and operational best practices.
  • Partner with Warehouse Managers to ensure dock operations remain aligned with warehouse SOPs and company processes. 
  • Coordinate with Audio, Lighting, Video, Staging, Logistics, and Production teams to prioritize equipment movement and support project needs. 
  • Communicate operational issues, delays, shortages, and resource constraints proactively to stakeholders. 
  • Support overall warehouse execution, including gear flow, fleet readiness, and vehicle coordination. 

Safety & Equipment Stewardship

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean warehouse and dock environment. 
  • Reinforce safety policies, OSHA requirements, and proper equipment handling procedures. 
  • Identify damaged equipment during returns and coordinate repair evaluation with the appropriate department. 
  • Support preventative maintenance initiatives by communicating operational concerns and equipment condition issues to warehouse leadership. 

Qualification / Experience

  • 3+ years of warehouse, logistics, transportation, event production, or equipment rental experience.
  • Prior supervisory or lead-level experience overseeing warehouse personnel, freight operations, dock operations, or equipment movement preferred.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read manifests, pull sheets, shipping documentation, and inventory reports.
  • Experience with inventory management systems; Flex Rental Solutions experience preferred.
  • Comfortable working with warehouse teams, drivers, freelancers, vendors, and production personnel.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Live event production, equipment rental, logistics, or transportation industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lead by example, hold team members accountable, and drive operational excellence.

Schedule / Hours of Work

  • Schedule is driven by warehouse activity, show schedules, and operational demands. 
  • Regular evening, early morning, and occasional weekend work may be required. 
  • Overtime may be necessary during peak production periods. 
  • Must be willing to support warehouse and production operations outside of standard business hours when required.
