Position Overview
The Production Stage Manager (PSM) is responsible for the execution, maintenance, and daily stage management operations of MAGIC MIKE LIVE NEW YORK CITY. This role serves as the central hub of backstage activity, ensuring seamless coordination between performers, technicians, and management while upholding the artistic integrity and high production standards of the show.
Working closely with company management, creative leadership, and technical departments, the Production Stage Manager leads all aspects of show calling, rehearsal coordination, and backstage operations. This individual plays a critical role in delivering a consistent, high-energy performance experience night after night while fostering a safe, organized, and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
SHOW EXECUTION
  • Call and execute all performances with precision, maintaining pacing, choreography, and technical integrity.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent execution of cues across lighting, sound, video, automation, and staging.
  • Maintain and update all show documentation, including calling scripts, cue sheets, and performance reports.
  • Monitor show quality and consistency, ensuring alignment with technical and operational standards.

CREATIVE STEWARDSHIP
  • Serve as the primary guardian of the show's creative integrity in the absence of a resident director, maintaining alignment with original staging and performance intent.
  • Lead the integration and rehearsal of new cast members, ensuring consistency in performance quality and characterization.
  • Provide ongoing performance notes to cast, upholding tone, style, and storytelling standards established during the rehearsal process.
  • Monitor for and address creative drift over time, partnering with creative leadership on any necessary adjustments.

STAGE MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS
  • Schedule and lead rehearsals, including understudy rehearsals, cast changes, and maintenance sessions.
  • Serve as the primary backstage leader responsible for show flow, performer readiness, and overall coordination during rehearsals and performances.
  • Supervise and direct the Assistant Stage Manager(s), delegating responsibilities and ensuring full coverage of backstage operations.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication across performers, technicians, wardrobe, and management.
  • Maintain an organized, efficient, and professional backstage environment during high-energy performances.

DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION
  • Collaborate with lighting, sound, wardrobe, technical, and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Work closely with Company Management and Production leadership on scheduling, coverage, and operational needs.
  • Assist with technical rehearsals, production updates, and implementation of creative adjustments.

SAFETY & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Uphold all backstage safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices related to choreography, staging, and technical elements.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to any performance or operational issues.

REPORTING & COMMUNICATION
  • Produce nightly performance reports detailing show notes, technical issues, and updates.
  • Communicate regularly with management and creative leadership regarding show performance and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate and organized production records and documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7-10 years of professional stage management experience in live theater or immersive entertainment.
  • Extensive experience calling cues for technically complex productions.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage performers and technical teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm, decisive, and solutions-oriented in a live performance environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (3-4 hours) and work in a nightclub-style environment.
  • Ability to lift 20-30 pounds. OSHA-30 certification required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working on New York City or other resident productions.
  • Background in choreography-driven productions and/or aerial calling.
  • Familiarity with long-running show maintenance and cast rotation processes.
