Job description

About US
Founded in 2018, with employees across the world, The Block is the leading research, analysis, and news brand in the digital asset space. The Block's team spans 5 continents and 15+ time zones, covering the global cryptocurrency space 24/7. At The Block, we see digital assets as a ubiquitous part of the future. As this space continues to evolve, we view our role as the trusted moderator and authoritative voice for those who invest in, work with, make decisions about, or seek to understand digital assets. The Block delivers deep insight into how the emerging digital assets sector interacts with traditional finance, technology, governments, and markets. We reach hundreds of thousands of technologists, financial market participants, Fortune 500 professionals, global service providers, policymakers, and more through our main website, dedicated Research Portal, podcast, and events.
Why Join The Block
  • Shape the narrative of crypto education, media, and research
  • Join a company that's respected in the space and has the audience, platform, and reach to move markets
  • Work remotely with a high-performance team that values ownership, speed, and clarity
  • Be part of a business that's expanding beyond media into SaaS, certification, and enterprise offerings
  • Competitive comp, equity, and benefits package

About the role
  • The Editorial team is the beating heart of The Block. Our reporters and editors are constantly on the lookout for the most important breaking news stories that help our audience navigate the ever-changing crypto landscape. From industry-defining scoops to in-depth investigations, The Block's newsroom sets the standard for crypto journalism globally.
  • We are looking for a Wall Street Reporter based in the greater New York city area to cover the rapidly deepening intersection of traditional finance and digital assets. As banks, asset managers, exchanges, and institutional investors move further into crypto - through ETFs, tokenization, custody, trading desks, and treasury strategies - you will be the reporter who tells our readers what Wall Street is doing, why it matters, and what's coming next. This role requires being on the ground in New York city: meeting sources in person, attending industry events, and building the kind of relationships that generate exclusive stories.

What you'll do
  • Report on Wall Street's engagement with digital assets, including banks, asset managers, hedge funds, market makers, exchanges, and other institutional players
  • Break news and land industry-defining scoops before they are widely known
  • Build and maintain a deep network of sources across trading desks, investment banks, asset management firms, and the institutional crypto ecosystem
  • Collect, verify, and analyze newsworthy information, including market data, regulatory filings, and earnings reports
  • Write and deliver clear, accurate news stories with our readers' perspective in mind, from quick-turn breaking news to in-depth features and investigations
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and in-person meetings in New York to develop sources and surface story ideas
  • Represent The Block on camera and on air - appearing on our podcasts and video content, participating in external media appearances, and moderating or speaking on panels at industry events
  • Collaborate with editors and fellow reporters across time zones to shape and expand The Block's markets and institutional coverage
  • Pitch timely, relevant, and creative story ideas that align with The Block's voice

What We are Looking For
  • Proven experience as a reporter covering Wall Street, financial markets, banking, or institutional finance
  • Experience reporting on cryptocurrency and digital assets strongly preferred
  • A track record of breaking news and cultivating sources in the financial industry
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, instruments, and institutions - you can read a 10-K, parse an ETF filing, and explain a balance sheet
  • Excellent news judgment and the ability to write quickly, clearly, and accurately under deadline pressure
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, demanding, 24/7 news environment
  • Willingness and comfort appearing on camera - including podcasts, video segments, and external media appearances - with strong verbal communication and presentation skills; prior broadcast or podcast experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with on-chain data, blockchain tools, and crypto market structure is a plus
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship

Who We Are
The culture of The Block lies in our key behaviors. It's who we are and it's how we show up every day.
  • We are confidently humble. We jump in and roll up our sleeves. We know there's always more to learn and we operate without egos.
  • We are actionably curious. We strive to be experts in our field and always seek opportunities to expand our knowledge and skill set. We put our learnings into practice every day.
  • We practice tenacious ownership. Every day when we show up we are contributors, teammates, and owners.

Why Join Us
  • Impactful work. Regardless of your role at The Block, you're making a meaningful contribution to our mission of accelerating the evolution of financial systems through independent reporting and technical research of all projects influencing the future of financial services.
  • A newsroom that moves markets. Join a brand that's respected in the space and has the audience, platform, and reach to shape the conversation around digital assets.
  • Competitive total rewards. We offer competitive, location-based compensation, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Work location & Authorization
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
This fully remote role is open only to candidates currently residing in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be able to travel to New York City for in-person client meetings, industry events, and team gatherings frequently.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer competitive, location-based compensation. Our total rewards include:
Remote work flexibility
Paid time off (local holiday policies respected)
Health and wellness benefits (varies by location)
Flexible PTO
401(k)
The pay range for this role is:
70,000 - 90,000 USD per year (Remote)
