Their duties also include greeting guests, answering menu questions, processing payments, and maintaining cleanliness in the dining area. Full-time waitresses typically work 35-40 hours per week, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Strong communication and multitasking skills are important for this role.

Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, order entry software, and food safety certifications like ServSafe are often required. Full-time waitresses often encounter challenges such as managing multiple tables at once, handling demanding customers, and maintaining a positive attitude during peak dining hours. Effective time management, clear communication with team members (such as kitchen staff and other servers), and staying organized are essential for navigating these high-pressure situations. Proactively anticipating guests' needs and staying calm under pressure can help ensure smooth service, even during the busiest times. Many restaurants also provide team briefings and support to help staff handle rush periods more efficiently.
