Position Overview: The Upgrade Welder is responsible for performing weld repair on castings utilizing the Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and Carbon Arc Gouging processes. Support Finishing department's safety, production, and quality goals.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Weld repair steel and stainless-steel castings utilizing GMAW, FCAW, SMAW processes.
  • Keep work area clean
  • Alert supervisor of any safety or quality issues
  • Alert supervisor of any maintenance issues
  • Recommend process improvements
  • Participate in special activities, projects, and programs in order to support Vulcan Metals Corp safety, quality, and productivity goals
  • Other duties as assigned or requested by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Certifications desired: ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1/ D1.4 for steel, AWS D1.6 for Stainless Steel, Dual Shield Certified (FCAW), (GMAW)
  • Ability to work with limited direct supervision
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must Pass 10 practical welding tests
    • Pre-Hire Welding Test= 1ea
    • Certified Welder Tests= 7ea
    • Upgrade Welder technical test= 2ea

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of welding experience
  • Must have experience with Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)
  • Must have experience with Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW or FCA)
  • Must have worked with mild steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel
  • Prefer experience with Gas metal arch welding (GMAW)
  • Ability to Weld with SMAW and FCAW in the 2G Horizontal and 3G Vertical up Positions
  • Ability to do window closure through wall repairs on Radiography (RE) grade examination castings
  • Previous experience with Casting defect removal (arcing) using the Air Carbon Arc Gouging process.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be able to read Welder Specification Procedures (WPS), interpret work instructions.
  • Ability to weld in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions
  • Must be able to document work on daily Labor Tickets

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to use arms, hands, legs and feet in repetitive motions
  • Must have the ability to change between sitting, standing, and kneeling positions
  • Must have the ability to twist, stoop, bend, and stand in the performance of job duties
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders or work at heights periodically
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration of the work shift
  • Must have good vision and depth perception
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to withstand hot temperatures
  • Must be able to wear required respirators

Pay Range: $23.31 - $30.43 an hour (depending on experience) *Swing shift differential*
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm or 2:30pm-11:00pm
