Job description

Description:

VULCAN is a precision engineering, manufacturing, and machining company dedicated to producing high-performance, mission-critical components and solutions for energy, defense, aerospace, and heavy industrial industries. Whether it’s in the field, in the ocean or on the launch pad, we deliver maximum value. We are looking to hire a highly capable CNC Lathe Machinist at our world-class manufacturing facility in Mansfield TX.


Lathe machinists are responsible for machining high-quality complex components that conform to engineered drawings and specifications. The candidate will need to be a critical thinker, have a sharp attention to detail, and follow existing proven processes. Position will work under direct supervision. The candidate must be receptive to receiving guidance with difficult technical tasks and machining practices.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Meets production standards set for parts being machined or determines and communicates reasons for not meeting those standards
  • Performs in-process inspections to ensure parts meet production specifications and quality standards
  • Effectively retrieve, understand, and adhere to QAP documentation
  • Determines all documentation, tooling, and gauging is present before beginning work. Ensures all information follows correct revisions and that measuring equipment has current calibration
  • Double checks measuring equipment against known standards
  • Evaluates operation and cutting tool performance
  • Helps develop final processes and accurately develop cycle time and tool life data
  • Learns and/or hones subject matter expertise on the operation of the CNC machining center
  • Detects and reports faulty machine operation, defective material, equipment, drawing discrepancies, and other unusual conditions to their supervisor and manufacturing support
  • Helps diagnose and troubleshoot equipment when maintenance issues arise
  • Performs autonomous maintenance such as topping of fluids as required
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion and follows all safety regulations
  • Reads program code and understands the order of operations needed to obtain quality parts
  • Meets production deadlines and manages priorities in addition to key performance objectives
  • Adheres to all HSE policies and procedures
  • Will clean, organize, and maintain work areas
Requirements:

Education & Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience operating lathe turning centers with live tooling capabilities
  • Technical program certificate or degree preferred
  • Basic PC Skills preferred
  • Okuma/Mazak control experience preferred
  • Familiar with the use of precision tools and instruments required to perform duties. Tools and instruments include but are not limited to: Calipers, Micrometers, and Gauges
  • Ability to understand G and M code
  • Good knowledge and understanding of machine cutting tools
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Must be able to read and interpret charts, drawings, and blueprints
  • Understands the need for accuracy, is highly organized and demonstrates and strong attention to detail
  • Familiar with GD&T symbols understands their meaning
  • Must be able to read, interpret and follow work instructions
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to work well and be productive with minimal supervision
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and lift; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls

Work Schedule Requirements:

  • Monday – Thursday 4:15pm – 2:30am
  • 5% pay premium for night shift work

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Occasionally will be required to perform maintenance on equipment outdoors. 90% of time will work inside air-conditioned facilities
  • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach above shoulders, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear, see, and smell
  • Can lift and carry products up to 50 lbs
