Friendship Hospital for Animals, a leading AAHA-accredited specialty and emergency hospital in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Advanced Veterinary Technician to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. About the role:
  • Provide exceptional, compassionate nursing care to critically ill and hospitalized patients, treating each patient as your own.
  • Collaborate with board-certified criticalists, emergency clinicians, residents, interns, and technicians to deliver advanced, life-saving care.
  • Utilize advanced technical skills, including vascular access, transfusion therapy, ventilator support, CRIs, invasive monitoring, and complex patient assessment.
  • Monitor critically ill patients, recognize subtle changes, and confidently advocate when every second counts.
  • Care for a wide variety of complex medical and surgical cases in a collaborative, high-acuity ICU.
  • Mentor technicians, assistants, and trainees while fostering a culture of learning and clinical excellence.
  • Support pet owners with compassionate communication during some of their most difficult moments.
  • Excel in a fast-paced environment where teamwork, adaptability, critical thinking, and attention to detail drive exceptional patient care.

Schedule: Schedule is usually four 10 hour shifts per week, with some weekends and holidays required. This is a full time position.

Qualifications
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, or RVT) required.
  • Five or more years of experience in emergency or specialty medicine, including advanced ICU or critical care experience.
  • Strong technical skills, sound clinical judgment, and the confidence to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • RECOVER certification, VTS (ECC), Fear Free Certification, and leadership or mentoring experience are a plus.
