What is a VSG?

VSGs, or Variant Surface Glycoproteins, are proteins that form a dense protective coat on the surface of certain parasites, such as Trypanosoma brucei. These proteins help the parasites evade the host's immune system by changing their surface antigens, a process known as antigenic variation. In a job context, 'VSG' is not commonly used as a standalone job title; it may refer to a specialized scientific position related to parasitology or molecular biology research. If you are referring to a different VSG, please provide more context for clarification.
