Job description

Dewberry is seeking a Department Manager (Associate Vice President/Vice President) to lead the Water Resources group in our New York City, NY office. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of energetic, highly engaged staff in Dewberry’s growing Water Market Sector. The ideal candidate will have people management skills along with proven technical expertise in water resources engineering, proposal development, marketing and business development in the New York City metropolitan area.

The Department Manager will be responsible for the overall growth of NYC’s water group along with leading proposals, business development, presenting at conferences, and participating in professional organizations. The Department Manager will have the opportunity to contribute nationally and play a critical role to support Dewberry’s National Flood Resilience and Water Market Sector Growth Initiatives.

  • Grow, mentor, and develop a team of 15 to 20 water resources and coastal engineering professionals  
  • Develop and execute strategies consistent with the enterprise growth goals
  • Conduct business development activities and opportunity capture planning, proposal writing, and oversight
  • Staff project teams with the right number and type of skill sets to contribute to successful delivery.
  • Develop strong client relationships
  • Manage, lead, execute, and provide technical support for resilience, water resources, and hazard mitigation projects within the municipal, regional, and federal markets.
  • Serve as Contract Manager and/or Project Manager and/or Engineer of Record on complex multi-disciplinary projects
  • Become QA/QC champion for the water resources and climate resilience team
  • Collaborate proactively and productively with other groups and company offices across the Northeast and our national programs operations units.

  • BS or MS degree preferably in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in water resources and/or environmental engineering).
  • Knowledge of USACE, FEMA, NYCDEP, NYSDEC and similar agencies standards and procedures for design.
  • Professional Engineer License and ability to apply for reciprocity in various states.
  • Experience writing winning proposals and leading successful client presentations for New York clients.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective leadership skills.
  • Experience using H&H modeling programs such as Infoworks ICM, MIKE, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM and others.
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is a plus.
  • Knowledge of coastal engineering is a plus.
  • Knowledge to perform QA/QC using various standards and checklists.  
  • A clean driving record is required.

The projected range for this position is $220,000 to $270,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly. These ranges are for NY only.
