Job description
The Opportunity
American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA), operated by Manipal Education Americas, LLC, seek a visionary, strategic, and dynamic leader to serve as Vice President of Admissions.
AUA provides a learner-centered, internationally recognized medical education and is committed to expanding access to medical education, supporting underrepresented students, and developing compassionate physicians prepared to address global healthcare needs. The University offers a U.S.-modeled medical curriculum, with preclinical education in Antigua and clinical rotations at affiliated teaching hospitals in the United States and beyond.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished enrollment-management executive to shape the future of the institution and the medical profession. The Vice President will lead the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of academically qualified, diverse, and mission-aligned students while strengthening the integrity, effectiveness, and reach of the admissions operation.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Admissions provides strategic direction, executive leadership, and operational oversight for the complete medical student admissions process. The Vice President will develop and execute a forward-looking enrollment strategy that supports institutional goals, strengthens applicant quality and diversity, and achieves annual enrollment and yield targets.
The successful candidate will combine strategic vision, data-driven decision-making, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to fair, transparent, and holistic admissions practices. This leader will oversee the applicant lifecycle from initial inquiry through matriculation, guide the admissions committee process, lead and develop a team of more than 10 admissions professionals, and build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
AUA currently uses a holistic admissions approach designed to identify applicants with the potential to succeed in medical school and as physicians, placing importance on qualities such as service, compassion, perseverance, and commitment to medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic enrollment plan aligned with institutional goals.
- Establish and achieve enrollment, applicant-quality, diversity, and yield targets.
- Oversee the applicant lifecycle from inquiry through matriculation.
- Lead the admissions committee process and present qualified candidates for consideration.
- Ensure admissions practices comply with institutional and accreditation requirements.
- Recruit, lead, and develop an admissions and advising team of more than 10 employees.
- Use applicant data, market trends, and CRM technology to guide strategy and forecast results.
- Develop national and international recruitment and outreach initiatives.
- Build relationships with colleges, pre-health advisors, pipeline programs, and community organizations.
- Partner with Marketing and Communications on recruitment campaigns and materials.
- Manage the admissions budget, technology, and departmental resources.
- Promote inclusive outreach to underrepresented, disadvantaged, nontraditional, and second-career applicants.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree; MBA strongly preferred.
- Eight to ten years of progressive leadership experience in admissions or enrollment management.
- Experience in a medical school, graduate healthcare institution, or selective graduate or professional academic environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical-school admissions and holistic application review.
- Experience leading an admissions or advising team of at least 10 employees.
- Experience presenting qualified applicants to an academic admissions committee.
- Demonstrated success improving applicant quality, diversity, enrollment, or yield.
- Strong analytical, communication, relationship-building, and public-speaking skills.
- Experience using CRM systems, preferably Salesforce, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel up to 15% and attend occasional evening or weekend events.
