At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with specialized special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Jackson Heights, NY! About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) tutor to work one-on-one with a 9th-grade student who benefits from structured, routine-based learning. The student experiences frustration with certain academic tasks and requires a patient, skilled provider to build foundational literacy, functional math, and language/communication skills.

The ideal candidate excels at using structured behavioral and learning strategies-such as token boards, reward systems, scheduled breaks, and sensory tools-to keep the student engaged, reduce frustration, and foster a positive learning environment.

Details:

  • Competitive pay based on specialization ($25-$35/hour).
  • Location: Jackson Heights, NY 11372
  • Schedule: 2 or more sessions per week (2 hours per session); availability on Mondays-Fridays between 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and Saturdays between 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Subjects: SETSS - Reading, Writing, Functional Math, Language & Communication, Special Education (SPED)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized SETSS instruction focused on foundational reading, writing, functional math, and communication skills
  • Target literacy concepts including CVC words, sight words, blending, spelling, and handwriting/penmanship
  • Teach practical, functional math concepts such as counting money and basic addition/subtraction
  • Implement structured behavioral supports, including token boards, reward systems, scheduled breaks, and sensory activities/tools to support focus and reduce frustration
  • Maintain a highly structured, routine-based environment to encourage active participation and task completion
  • Support the development of language and functional communication skills
  • Monitor progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet the student's evolving academic and behavioral needs

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience providing Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) or specialized 1:1 Special Education support
  • Strong background teaching foundational literacy (phonics, CVC words, blending) and functional math (money skills, basic computation)
  • Skilled in implementing positive behavioral support tools (token economies, reward systems, visual schedules) and sensory breaks
  • Experience working with high school-aged students requiring foundational/functional academic support
  • Patient, structured, encouraging, and adept at managing frustration around challenging academic tasks
  • Open to an evening and weekend tutoring schedule
