Job description

We are Subway Headquarters! A dedicated team of professionals supporting thousands of franchisees around the globe.

Lead Software Engineer, Menu Platform

Franchise World Headquarters, LLC

Why Join Subway?

At Subway, we are not standing still. We are building.

This is a business focused on what matters most: growing franchisee profitability, strengthening our brand and creating long-term value. The people who thrive here are the ones who want to make a real impact.

You will not just do the work. You will shape it.

We move fast. We think like owners. We make decisions that matter. We hold ourselves to a high standard because what we do directly impacts thousands of franchisees around the world.

If you bring energy, accountability and a bias for action, you will fit right in.

We take the work seriously, but we also know the best results come from teams that support each other, celebrate wins and show up ready to build something better every day.

This is your chance to be part of what’s next.

Position Overview

Lead the technical direction of the menu platform at one of the largest restaurant businesses on earth: more than 35,000 restaurants across 100+ countries, billions in sales. The menu sits at the center of everything — every promotion, every price, every order, across dozens of digital and in-store channels. We're rebuilding its foundations from the ground up, and we're looking for the technical leader who will help shape what those foundations look like for the next decade.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a people-management role. You spend most of your time leading system and technical direction while building and shipping code daily, with the rest spent driving the team's day-to-day delivery. You lead architecture and design review, drive the project forward, and level up the engineers around you — all while writing a lot of code yourself.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and technical direction of the menu platform and the key design decisions that shape the system.
  • Stay hands-on: write code, design, and ship alongside the team, not just direct from above.
  • Lead the re-architecture of a reliable production system for the next decade of the business, including modernizing legacy C# / SQL Server services onto the new TypeScript stack through real rewrites.
  • Drive the team's day-to-day delivery: shape what gets built and in what order, unblock engineers, and review code.
  • Grow the team technically through mentoring, code review, and raising the engineering bar across the group.
  • Set the strategy for how AI accelerates the team: strengthen the build harness and development loop, and architect how we run agentic features like automated menu validation in production.

Qualifications

  • Deep experience with JavaScript / TypeScript, Node.js, React, and React Native, with real opinions on frontend craft: state management, rendering performance, caching, UX, and accessibility.
  • Strong with service-based architectures and structured backend frameworks such as NestJS.
  • Full-stack range across CI/CD, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or similar), backend, and frontend, with exposure to monitoring and observability.
  • A track record of owning system architecture and leading significant technical work.
  • Proven experience modernizing a mature application through a rewrite or re-platform.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools such as Claude to accelerate development, and ideas on how to improve the team's build harness and development loop.
  • Ability to lead and mentor engineers and communicate technical direction clearly.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including a track record of technical leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with monorepo tooling and shared-code patterns (TypeScript monorepo preferred).
  • Interest in architecting agentic features into production systems.
  • QSR, restaurant technology, or high-volume consumer platform experience.

What do we offer?

  • Insurance Plans (Medical, Life)
  • Pension/401K/RSP (country specific)
  • Competitive Bonus
  • Mobility Allowance
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Company Holidays
  • Volunteering time
  • And More…..

Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $138,300 - 172,900 annually

Pay within this range will be determined in good faith based on job-related factors, which may include skills, experience, education/training, location, and internal equity.

The Company is only considering applicants who are currently authorized to work in the country the position is based. AA/EOE/D/V
